America began to breathe easy at the close of the Cold War and loosened its grip on the fear of nuclear confrontation for the first time since World War Two. Peace was palpable, but in retrospect the years between 1988 and 2008 were as rocky as they were uncertain. Turbulence, not tranquility, marked the turn of the century: the war on drugs, race riots, values debates, deep economic shifts, and the growing threat of terrorism on U.S. soil that would tragically play out on September 11, 2001.
Dr. William J. Bennett is one of Americas most influential and respected voices on cultural, political, and educational issues. Host of the top-ten nationally syndicated radio shows, "Bill Bennetts Morning in America," he is also the Distinguished Fellow of the American Strategy Group. He is the author and editor of more than twenty-five books, and lives near Washington, DC.

I have many of Bennett's books both adult and children's and like them this book was not a disappointment. This is this third book in America series it enlightens the reader to the last 20 years of American history: From the collapse of Communism to the Rise of radical Islam. It covers presidents from George H. Bush to beginning of Obama's presidency. This book was very interesting for the history buff and informative for the political/history wannabes. The author presents the information in a very easy to read format that is easy to read and follow, Bennett keeps the readers interest sparked. The author adds his own personal notes, views, and perspectives throughout the book. Many schools use Bennett's books in their curriculum. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to be informed. You will walk away more informed after reading Bennett's book.
Ellsha3Age: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5I learned many small details of historyNovember 23, 2011Ellsha3Age: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed this book! There were many little details, written from the eyes of one who knew the people making the decisions, that a history textbook cannot give.
I like Mr. Bennetts style in writing and his honesty.
You won't be disappointed!
