We wanted a good clean family movie. It was clean considering it was the story of Gomer. I liked the idea of applying an old testament story to our modern times but the script was very weak and the acting was just way to cheesy. It left me feeling like I'd just watched an impromptu skit written and put together by a church youth group. We expected more when we saw that "sam" from LOTR was a main actor. We were sadly disappointed. We sat through it but our family night would have been better spent playing games. We won't watch it again. We should have saved our money and found something else.
I've always loved the book of Hosea demonstrating God's agape love to us. This movie was so-so good. It demonstrates Hosea's agape love toward his wife very well, but I thought the comparison to a girl in the movie who has been emotionally hurt and another girl reacting to her aloofness with a childish attitude was very shallow and left a lot to be desired considering it was directed at teenagers. I know sin is sin in God's eyes, but He was promising judgment on a terrible sin (His people's unfaithfulness and rejection of Him and turning to idolatry). I thought this could have been compared more truthfully than the movie did it yet still brought out in a modest way.
