Just as the book's description reads, "At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry is a thorough and penetrating examination of sexual addiction." Without any kind of a secular psychological worldview, the book delves right into the observable patterns of behavior that start the cycle of sexual sin and gives the biblical keys necessary to uproot the strongholds of impure thinking and behaving that feed the lusts that lead to addiction. Hitting on topics that range from "starter sins" like pornography and masturbation to deep-seeded sins like rape and sexual serial killing, "Sexual Idolatry" teaches an individual where they go wrong and how to biblically correct whatever deviant patterns of lustful behavior they are currently entertaining. Once more, "Sexual Idolatry" reveals how to successfully break the pattern of addictive sexual sin and adopt biblical routines that will keep the door to deeper sexual perversions from opening. In short, this book is for anyone and everyone caught in the throws of any kind of sexual sin, from the most basic to the most profound (all unusual exceptions included). For this reason, "At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry" is at the top of my list for books to use when counseling an individual in bondage to sexual sin. It's a must have for every pastor's library!

With all the hype out there about how to medicate yourself in your struggle with sexual sin, Steve Gallagher gives a much-needed look at how God sees the matter. He offers practical advice and invaluable insight into the journey to true freedom in Christ, based on his own life experience. This book is a must for the Christian who is in sexual sin; the effort needed to work through the material is worth your while. This book also works well in a group setting. Down-to-earth, yet focused on heaven. Basically, what the person caught in sexual sin needs is to learn to love God with all his/her being; this is Gallagher's heart-cry, to bring that person there.
