Can you teach your children to read in just 10 minutes a day? Yes, with this acclaimed phonics program! Progressive lessons present each letter of the alphabet by its sound and then blend letter sounds to form basic words. More advanced exercises introduce whole sentences. Includes teacher's manual and lesson plans. Nonconsumable. Grades K to 4. 168 pages, spiralbound softcover from Paradigm.
Reminding us to be satisfied with moderation, my mother used to say, "A little dab will do ya." With this in mind, I want to reassure you that it is not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on an elaborate phonics course. There is an alternative that is amazingly simple and direct - it's called "sounding out." Instead of using dancing cartoon figures or singsongy ditties (meant to amuse, but which often distract), a child simply looks at the letter or word and repeats after you. When a child has learned to recognize each letter of the alphabet by its sound, you can introduce the blending of letter sounds. Frequent practice plus some review will be needed, but this gradual work can be accomplished in 10 minutes a day with Alpha-Phonics. This program is the little dab of phonics I gave my children each day fr their "at, mat, cat, hat, sat" sort of practices. And it was plenty. The large child-sized, handwritten letters are ready by the student straight out of the book. Short words are read in columns. (No need to read all the columns on the page in one sitting.) Whole sentences are introduced using words previously practiced. An inexpensive non-consumable course, complete with teacher's manual and lesson plans. Grades K through 4.

I love this program! I am new to homeschooling and am teaching my 5 year old daughter to read using Alpha-Phonics. The lessons are simple and quick, and she is learning it very quickly. The pages are free from distractions so she can focus on the lesson at hand. After just a few lessons, she was reading several words and sentences. I highly recommend this!

This is a fantastic program. My daughter was reading better in weeks. Very easy to use and takes very little to no preparation. Highly recommend!

We started this program for our Kindergarten year. My daughter has learned so much this year and it didn't take us much time during the day to go over the lesson. She started with a basic knowledge of phonics and she is now reading. I high recommend this systematic approach. I love the fact that there are no fancy pictures to distract her as she does her lesson.

My husband (not the most patient man) taught my four year old to read with just this book! It is a great no nonsense book! I highly recommend it.

I bought this book to teach my Kindergartner how to read over the summer. Now she is one, if not the best, of readers in her class. Now I'm going to use it for my 4 year old this summer. This really worked for us!

Alpha-Phonics is systematic, thorough, and effective. Dollar for Dollar it is the best value in phonics instruction. I also highly recommend the Phonics Tutor CD-ROM Phonics program from Samuel Blumenfeld, and I am planning to purchase the related spelling program which is available thru the Alpha-Phonics website, but I'd be glad to purchase it through CBD.
