Deborah Raney takes readers directly into this story with real-life situations and lively dialogue. Raney keeps readers turning the pages with every twist and surprise the plot takes. At the end of the book readers feel they know Bryn and Garret personally. I would recommend this book to everyone because of its great messages of forgiveness and trust in God. He loves his wife and his life as it is. They have been married a little over a year and have begun attending church when possible. Bryn Hennesey works part-time at the local library and a homeless shelter while her husband, Adam, is a firefighter. He and Molly work at the same fire station. Bryn has been working at the shelter against her husbands wishes as it isnt in the safest area and some of the men who stay at the shelter are dangerous. She has been sneaking behind his back to work at the shelter when he has a night shift at the fire house. One night something happens that will change all four peoples lives forever.
After this event, the media hoopla and paparazzi hounding begins. Two people are faced with a mountain of numbing grief and the sense of What am I going to do now? As time goes on, they find solace in their tenuous friendship. They begin to spend more time together at ease in each others presence as they dont have to pretend theyre doing fine; they can be real with one another. Then, a forgotten memory returns and once again, lives are turned upside down. Both individuals learn how much they need God in their lives to see them through each moment of every day and how important it is to forgive for the one seeking forgiveness and the one giving it.
This is the first book by this author for me to read and it wont be the last! She has written an emotional, thought-provoking, warm-hearted story that will leave readers wanting more. Its a good thing there are two more books in the series! Book two is titled, Forever After and I am excited to read it soon and review it here. I just fell in love with Garrett and Bryn. I have not experienced the tragedy that they experienced, but the writing was so good I could put myself in their place, feeling their emotions. What a touching story! Dont miss this one!
Jane SquiresWasola, MoAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Forgiveness, Dealing with Grief and so much moreSeptember 9, 2011Jane SquiresWasola, MoAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5God always places a book in my hands just as I need it. I started this book right before my life was turned upside down. My husband and I began looking for a new church.
Even though no one died due to my troubles this book uplifted me.
Bryn did something very few people today would do and that was face up to her part in a tragedy. Most would have looked to have placed blame on others. Or let the fire department never have a clue to fire.
Sometimes walking the narrow road is very difficult but the truth will set you free.
I have not read one book by Deborah Raney that has not touched me in some way or other.
To lose one's spouse and others to die because of a careless mistake would be hard to get past. But we would be more careful in the future and have more compassion for others.
Megan DiMariaAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Very enjoyableOctober 19, 2010Megan DiMariaAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleAlmost Forever is the story of a devastating tragedy that resulted in the death of five firefighters. The firefighters' families, as well as the woman whose negligence may have caused the disaster, must deal with the aftermath.
Raney's characters are rich and real. The struggles they face produce realistic responses. I connected with the characters to the extent that I teared up when they were facing difficulties and celebrated when they triumphed.
I discovered Deb Raney's books years ago, and I'll continue to be a fan. She knows how to deliver a wonderful story, always with an uplifting message. As usual, she didn't disappoint with the first installment of the Hanover Falls series. Can't wait to read the next one!
Chandra Lynn5 Stars Out Of 5September 16, 2010Chandra LynnWhen I open a book by Deborah Raney I expect several things. I expect to be drawn into the lives of the characters from the first page, travel a journey of faith and growth with them, get confused by a few twists and turns in the journey, and believe in the ending. Almost Forever delivered all I expected. The characters, Brynn Hennesey and Garrett Edmonds, lost their spouses in the same tragic fire. Mourning brings them together, friendship grows until secrets and the revelation of a horrible accident threaten to destroy the friendship and halt the healing. It is no wonder Deborah's books have won so many awards. This one will probably follow suit. Grab the book, a cozy blanket, and curl up for a great read.
Pamela Meyers5 Stars Out Of 5August 14, 2010Pamela MeyersWhenever Deborah Raney has a new release it is an auto-buy for me. Early this morning I finished her latest book, Almost Forever, which is part of her new series called Hanover Falls. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. In true Raney style the reader is taken deep into the characters until you feel every tug of grief, every fear, every joy that surprises in the midst of all the sadness. And, last night just as I was about to turn off the light, the tension amped up and there I sat reading until my eyelids refused to stay open. I finished the book over breakfast this morning. The story had a very satisfying ending with a strong spiritual arc.I highly recommend this book because Deb Raney continues to be an auto-buy for me. Hands down.
