In Agents of the Apocalypse, Dr. David Jeremiah breaks down the barriers that Christians erect when we attempt to read the book of Revelation. If you are like me and often find the cryptic, metaphorical, and highly symbolic language of the text to be a stumbling block to your own personal study, then Dr. Jeremiahs imaginative dramatization of end-time events may aid in your ability to wrap your mind around this prophetic work.

I confess that I was leery about the use of fiction to unlock the Truth of Revelation. When I began reading I felt that some of the stories were truncated, but by the fourth chapter I noticed that the author was layering them one atop another. In this way he could refer back to previous character interactions to depict how different players (agents) in the book were related.

Of the fictional portions, chapters one and ten had the greatest impact on me. Chapter one, The Exile, is a call for Christians to stand up in the face of persecution. We live in an increasingly godless world where believers are mocked, martyred, and discriminated against. Through a creative depiction of a first century church, readers are challenged to persevere even unto death. Then in chapter ten, The Judge, Dr. Jeremiah uses a man named Morgan to illustrate how God will judge our works and the motives of our hearts. From the throne of judgement, God speaks to Morgan saying, Though you wore My name, you were an impostor, you said the right words, but your heart belonged to you. This scenario caused me to reflect on my motivations for ministry and to reevaluate how I reflect the love of Christ to others.

The true gems of this book were found in The Scripture Behind the Story sections within each chapter. Its here that the author dissects the book of Revelation using scripture to interpret scripture and presenting the most widely accepted interpretations of the passages. He also draws on the wisdom of trusted scholars and theologians to solidify our understanding.

Having studied Revelation before I poured through Agents of the Apocalypse in two days time. When I recommend it to others (which I am doing here) I will suggest doing a once through reading of Revelation to familiarize yourself with the text. Then to take this book chapter by chapter, maybe in a small group or a book club setting, and meditating over the Truths revealed. Agents of the Apocalypse is a rich and reward read sure to further your love an appreciation of Gods Word.

Rarely do I read anything unfolding the book of Revelation that helps me understand what it is all about. This book however, does just that. It is subtitled A Riveting Look at the Key Players of the End Times which describes it well. Dr. David Jeremiah has laid out the major themes in Revelation that we all know of but may not understand well. This book is arranged so that each chapter begins with a story for the prophecy that makes the subject matter more real. The author then follows that story with a section he calls The Scripture Behind the Story in which he brings to light the real-world application of each end-times prophecy. All of the key players are here, from The Exile to The Two Witnesses to The Dragon, The Victor , The Judge, and more. This is a chilling call to awareness and accountability. The thought comes to mind that this is Revelation for Dummies-and I say that with all due respect. This book gives the reader no reason to think that they cannot understand what is happening in the Revelation as given to John the Apostle on the Isle of Patmos; which also calls us to let no excuse keep us from fulfilling the Great Commission, as we are commanded to do. Agents of the Apocalypse is a call to be ready for the end times. I give this book five stars!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Tyndale in exchange for my honest review. These words are my opinion.

I got saved and excepted Jesus as my Savior reading the "Left Behind" series of books. But this book really explains it all much better. Dr. David Jeremiah explains things a lot better and references Bible verses after each story that, yes, has fictional characters, but is based truly on Scripture. If you study Prophecy or just like reading the Book of Revelation and about the Rapture and what the Bible says what is going to happen, this is the book to read.

This book was a well written book. It helped to explain the book of Revelations in an easy, descriptive way. I learned a lot about what is going on and taught me things that I did not know before. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn more about the Bible and the prophesies that are written though out.

It was very difficult to put this book down! I had read another book on prophecy by Dr. Jeremiah and knew to expect a fact-based book. Many times I felt elated that I won't be here for the Tribulation Period. However, I pray that people who buy this book will pass it on to others so they can be blessed and led to pass the book on to the unsaved people they come in contact with, especially the Jews.
