Publisher's Description

The Afternoon of Life is written for women in the middle years of their lives. As we age, we wonder at the many changes occurring in our lives. How do we make the necessary adjustments? How do we handle all this? Elyse Fitzpatrick shows us how our faith can be at the center of how we respond to these life changes. With humor, transparency, and biblical wisdom, she helps us see that God’s purpose in bringing us through this time is to glorify himself and sanctify us. There are questions at the end of each chapter to help women during what may be the most difficult time they will face.

Author Bio

Elyse Fitzpatrick counsels with the Institute for Biblical Counseling and Discipleship and is a frequent retreat and conference speaker. Fitzpatrick coauthored Women Helping Women, a 1998 Gold Medallion finalist; Love to Eat, Hate to Eat; Overcoming Fear, Worry, and Anxiety; and Uncommon Vessels: A Program for Developing Godly Eating Habits. She and her husband, Philip, have three adult children and two grandchildren.

Editorial Reviews

As an "afternoon of life" woman myself, I laughed, I cried, and I was convicted by this book. I highly recommend this book and wish I had had it when I was at the beginning of my afternoon instead of at the end.
Elyse Fitzpatrick has a heart-desire to bring God’s life-changing Word to strengthen and help hurting people. It is always with confidence that I recommend her books.

My husband got me this for my 45th birthday, because he knows I like the author. While she is talking more to mothers and wives whose children are grown or nearly so, and I am nursing a baby, I was encouraged greatly with this book. It gave me things to think about with having older teens in my home, issues with my own aging parents, things to think about regarding marriage, and with dealing with my own aging body. This was a fast read and now I will lend it to a friend.

I just finished reading Elyse Fitzpatrick's book, The Afternoon of Life. Even though we know the physical and mental changes we are going through are normal, it is encouraging to know that others are experiencing the same things, and also to be reminded of our Lord's orchestration of and purpose for our lives, preparing us for our eternity with Him! I am currently in the midst of most of what Elyse has written in this book. I'm looking forward to a future with daughter-in-laws and grandchildren (hopefully), but everything else was like looking in a mirror. With laughter and tears I enjoyed every chapter!
