Located in: Nikiski, Alaska Submitted: January 28, 2010 Tell us a little about yourself. I am now 63 years old. My wife and I live in Nikiski, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula about three hours drive south of Anchorage. We live only a few minutes from the famous Kenai River where the world record King Salmon was caught. I have been a pastor in Alaska since the early 70's and have pastored congregations in Anchorge, Homer, Nome, Fairbanks and Nikiski. My wife and I are both enjoy fishing and really enjoy taking folks out fishing who have never caught a salmon before. In 1985 I founded Cornerstone Family Ministries through which I conduct seminars, retreats and do pastoral counseling. I have masters degrees in both theology and counseling. What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to share my own experiences of the faithfulness of God to provide and protect us in all of our adventures here in the far north. What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people who read this book will be encouraged to trust the Lord in their own circumstances. Also, that readers will gain a glimpse through my eyes of the grandeur and incredible beauty that is Alaska. How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I discovered that it takes a lot of focus to actually get stories down into a readable form and that it is a huge team effort to get a project from idea to manuscript to editing and eventually publishing and marketing. It is a team thing for sure. Warren and Pat Angel of Magnus Press are indeed "angels" and great folks with whom to work. As I looked back on the characters I talk about in the book, I felt very blessed that my life had been allowed to intersect with theirs. The real riches in Alaska are not the gold and oil in the ground, but the colorful folks who live here. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? By far, my wife, Marveen, and her insatiable curiosity and love of books is my inspiration. We don't have need of many wall decorations in our house because our every wall is lined with bookshelves to contain our 15,000 or so books. We love to read of the adventures and stories of others between our own real life adventures. Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I hope you will find Adventures of an Alaskan Preacher a good read. It is not overly "religious" but each short story is true and does have a valuable life lesson aimed at encouraging others in their faith. Find Related Products
