Series: Adventures in Odyssey
When released, Patrick and Beth meet the Pilgrims and spend the first Thanksgiving with them. Even then, they must keep watching for Hugh, whom they fear will try to start a war between the Pilgrims and Native Americans. As the story progresses, they learn the value of taking risks for the sake of peace as instructed in Romans 12:18.
This chapter book is the last in a mini-series about Hugh and the ring he stole that allows him to travel through time, so its ending is resolved. But more books in the series are coming. The books echo the style of the Magic Tree House series, but, instead of magic, a quirky machine built by Mr. Whittaker ferries the children through time. Fans of the audio drama Adventures in Odyssey will enjoy the Imagination Stations antics, but readers do not have to be familiar with the show in order to understand the books.
The series is geared for early elementary readers, and its website, www.theimaginationstation.com, provides a vocabulary list of harder words in the book. It also reveals a prize when the secret word from the books puzzle is typed in.
Besides making great beginner reading material, these books are perfect for family reading time. Patrick and Beths adventures kept me quickly turning pages, and I regretted reaching the end so soon. Alexandra Mellen, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
Jessica BatesAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Fun read for any ageAugust 30, 2014Jessica BatesAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Problems in Plymouth is the 6th book in the Imagination Station series. Patrick and Beth find themselves searching for Hugh in the year 1621 near Plymouth Rock. They encounter Indians (Native Americans) as well as the infamous Squanto. The even get to experience the First Thanksgiving.
Another fun walk through history with small details about life in 1621. The children experience time in a teepee, muskets, Indians' bows and arrows, and the real story of what life was like for the Pilgrims when they first came to America. I enjoyed the little details and tidbits woven into this fictional story. A fun read for any age.
LeeannCdA, IDAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5great adventure storyAugust 28, 2014LeeannCdA, IDAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4My young girls love the Imagination Station series. This was a fun one about Thanksgiving. It talks about some of the real characters who were involved in the first Thanksgiving. It is a good starting point for a good conversation about the first Thanksgiving. It took me an hour to read this aloud so it is a good kid length.
HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Loved the Book, Love the Series!July 23, 2014HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: femaleWe read this book during Thanksgiving last year and I highly recommend doing that! It's number 6 in the series but it doesn't need to be read in order, by any means. While there are some twists, there are many true historical characters in the book. During the same week, we listen to Focus on the Family's radio theater version of "Squanto" and it was the perfect compliment. The Thanksgiving message here is clear, though perhaps a bit watered down. Still, it's perfect for kids who are around the 1st-3rd grade age ranges. There's excitement between the pages, and my kids were drawn into the story as was I. It whet our appetites to dig deeper into more of real Thanksgiving history. Highly recommend!
J4Life55 Stars Out Of 5Another Great Book in this seriesJuly 18, 2014J4Life5Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I continue to love this series! It offers younger readers an interesting look at history in a way that parents can feel good about. I love the way Hering and Younger combine real and fictional characters to bring history to life.
In this book, Patrick and Beth visit Plymouth and readers gain knowledge of the Mayflower, as well as well-known pilgrims. The illustrations add to the prose and the chapters are short enough to hold the attention of even young readers during a read aloud time.
This series continues to deliver a positive alternative to the Magic Tree House series, which I love. I have yet to read any of these books that I haven't enjoyed. On a side note, although this is a series of books, they do not need to be read in order. Each one stands alone.

At Plymouth, they meet Miles Standish, William Bradford, and Indian Chief Massasoit during a time where there is unrest between the Indians and Pilgrims. The unrest is made worse when Hugh, the archenemy, steals a musket causing the Pilgrims to believe the Indians stole them with war in their minds. Beth and Patrick race against the clock to catch Hugh before he can change history and to prevent a war from occurring between the Pilgrims and Indians.
