Product Description

The adventure continues! Join cousins Beth and Patrick as they travel through time to fifth-century Rome to locate a missing silver cup. After returning to Whit's after finding the Viking sunstone, another letter is left this time requesting a silver cup that belongs to a monk. If found, this cup may prevent the mysterious Albert from being imprisoned.
Emperor Honorius is hosting a gladiator battle at the Roman Colosseum in honor of a war victory. Beth attends as a slave and Patrick attends as a monk's apprentice, until he is taken prisoner and sent to fight in the arena. While in Rome, the cousins meet Telemachus, a monk that believes fighting is wrong and who is willing to give up his life to stop the killing.
When Beth and Patrick find the cup and return to their time, a new letter is waiting for them with information on the mysterious Albert's fate.

Once again the Imagination Station at Whit's End sends Beth and Patrick on a time machine adventure. In book 1, these two tried to help the mysterious Albert by visiting the Vikings. In Attack at the Arena, they search for a puzzling silver cup needed to save Albert. Beth and Patrick's adventures take them to Rome during the era of the first Christians. Beth is captured by a Roman soldier as they seek to take a message to the Emperor. Based very firmly on history, Bible morals, and the teaching of reading skills, this book closes with some puzzles drawn from the story.

Attack at the Arena is book 2 in Focus on the Family’s Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station series. This series is written to engage and enhance the literary skills of ages 7 and up. Prolific writer of articles and books for young people, Marianne Hering knows well how to engage young readers. Award winning author and creator of the Father Gilbert Mysteries, Paul McCosker adds his know-how to these stories. An exciting chapter book with characters young people will find believable and interesting, Attack at the Arena, will fit well into the reading curriculum for both home-schoolers and classrooms. The words will challenge 7-year-olds, but the story interest will keep them engaged in the reading. Older students will enjoy reading this book and be able to draw ideas from such activities as book discussions, journaling, and story mapping. Because of the mysterious Albert who needs help and the terrible Lord Darkthorn who is Albert's nemesis, readers will look forward to the next book in this series. – Donna Eggett, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

This is the second book in The Imagination Station series of historical fiction for children. As I child I apparently missed the story of the ending of the Roman games, and really never contemplated what led to their demise. Well now I know it was decreed by Emperor Honorius. A book for children taught me something!

I think this would be a very interesting story for the target audience of age 7 and up. After reading, theres a secret puzzle to decode, and additional educational information and questions for thought on the Imagination Station website. This is a great tool for learning history that is engaging for children.

Attack at the Arena is the second book of the Imagination Station series. I read this book with my niece and nephew and not only did they love it, but I felt good about it because it uses a captivating story to teach sound Biblical values. In this book, Mr. Whittaker and cousins Beth and Patrick get a letter from the Imagination Station. This time, they go to ancient Rome including the arena to find the missing silver cup belonging to a monk. This book is full of adventure that will appeal to young readers and valuable lessons that Christian parents will want their children taken into heart. I also appreciated the many facts of ancient Rome because it gave my niece and nephew an appreciation for what they have and how they live. Once again, Focus on the Family provides a great tool for parents to provide to their children that will impart valuable Christian principles to its users.
