Based on the biblical story of Moses, and written from a kid's perspective, Fendar's Legacy teaches about the freedom found in following God's plan.

It's the 1960's, and Michelle has convinced her cousins Danny and Wayne to sneak out to a hippie gathering. When the police show up due to loitering on private land, Danny, Michelle, and Wayne jump into a lake to escape, and instead travel to another land - one where a renegade prince has returned and a city is on the cusp of revolution. Michelle is separated from Danny and Wayne, and finds herself on the opposite side of a struggle which encompasses more than she could have ever dreamed.
This is an excellent retelling of the story of Moses. The authors have put a lot of time into analyzing the Biblical story and the miracles God did in Egypt, allowing for a retelling which functions not only as a hook to get you interested in Moses, but also as an interpretation which might make more sense to younger readers and a commentary on power: where it comes from, how it should be used, and who it belongs to.
I would really stress, however, that these not be read by children alone. The introduction to the book states that parental guidance is intended, and to avoid confusion between the retelling and Scriptural truth, I would say that guidance is mandatory. Fortunately, these books are well enough written that reading them will not be a chore for parents, but honestly enjoyable.
Best recommended for middle school readers and up, this is a great choice for teaching literary analysis and adding new dimensions to familiar Bible stories. Thumbs up.

Three kids from Odyssey jump in a river to escape the pressing crowds, and come out in a fountain in the land of Marus. One of the kids is enticed by the riches of the land and finds herself in the King's palace, while the other two kids are with the exiled prince who is trying to set the slaves free.
This story follows the Biblical account of Moses during the time of the Plagues, telling the story from a kid's perspective. This is the sixth book in the Passages series which transports kids from Odyssey into the land of Marus and its surrounding countries. Marus is a fictional world where two moons light the night sky, and their history is parallel to that of the Old Testament. This is a great book for kids and adults alike. It would be a great book to read together as a family.
