We have offered this series on Sunday morning, in a weekday Women's class, and in two small group Bible studies. My only recommendation it to NOT use this in Advent. It's too late to make an impact. Use this in October or November to get people thinking differently for the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons. It is relevant, thought provoking, Biblical, yet not preachy. As someone who works professionally in the church, I seek quality resources for our members, however I often don't expect them to effect me and change me as much as this series did.
I was excited to read this book because it promised to explore whether Christmas can still change the world. For me, Christmases have begun to blur together year as Ive grown older, and Ive felt like I must be missing something. Advent Conspiracy is a short but thought provoking read which inspired me with stories of people who have found ways to make Christmas about meaningful giving. Instead of spending time with wish lists, we can make a tangible difference in the quality of life that people around the world. I hope to share this books principles with my family members this Christmas so we can celebrate with more joy and more compassion for others. The book has also challenged me to think carefully about how we teach our young son about Christmas so that he will grow up with a heart for others and not a desire for accumulating more things.
This book is an invitation to celebrate Christmas in a way that is more true to the original Christmas story. In it, we are encouraged to Spend Less, Give More, Worship Fully, and Love All this Christmas. The Advent Conspiracy DVD is a great 4 week study that would be perfect for a small group to study through in the Advent season. Discussion questions for the DVD are located in the back of the book.
This incredible book will change the way you look at Christmas! It provides a great combination of conceptual thoughts and practical ideas. We may all want to "keep Christ in Christmas", but the Advent Conspiracy gives great guidance in how to actually accomplish that. We're using it for our small group study. Highly recommend!
