To round out your history curriculum I would highly recommend purchasing the activity books and test packets which accompany each volume. These resources are available in either paperback or PDF-download.
Based on our experience with this series and the content of the curriculum, I would recommend it for Grades 5-8. Overall we have been pleased with Ms. Bauer's approach to world history and look forward to Story of the World Volume 2 The Middle Ages "From the Fall of Rome to the Rise of the Renaissance." -
ma piperSunbury, PAAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5such a useful tool!September 1, 2014ma piperSunbury, PAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I bought all 4 volumes of Story of the World, with the plan to cover it all over 4 years. I debated whether to get this activity book, and I am so glad I did! This makes planning each lesson so easy, and I know our study will be so much more complete because of the suggested reading, maps, questions, and projects. Also, since I'm using this book with 3 students (1st, 2nd, 4th grades) I love that the book offers a range of options, so I can tailor their activities to their different levels. I am not a unit studies person, but by using this book it's really easy to bring art, reading, and writing into your history lessons. In fact, I am using history as our art time this year. As far as the value, I feel that the number of student reproducible pages, which I'm copying for 3, makes this an excellent value. The pages are perforated for easy copying. I am very happy with this book and already plan to purchase the blue activity book for next year.

MamaG5 Stars Out Of 5Not your typical History textbook!!!!!April 29, 2013MamaGQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Softcover Text, Volume 1: The Ancient Times, Story of the World .This isn't a "typical" History textbook, the title describes it exactly....its a story. It brings the dry data to life and enables the reader to put it into context which translates to improved retention. The reader learns about unique cultural practices, agriculture, geography, biographical data, etc. My kids (ages 4-8) can't wait to hear/read what happens next and look forward to History everyday! Thank you!

HomeSchlMom5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Jumping Off PointOctober 9, 2018HomeSchlMomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Story of the World provides a nice overview of world history in a sensible and easy to follow chronological order. It has provided a nice framework for our 2nd/3rd grade homeschool history lessons. We are moving slowly through the book and supplementing each chapter with many other, more detailed, activities. What I especially appreciate about this series is the inclusion of cultures and civilizations outside of Europe - this is truly a WORLD history book. As a child in public school I was only vaguely aware of the history and achievements of civilizations outside of Europe and America. I hope to give my child a broader perspective and I think this series will helpful in that regard.
