ACSI Science Student Book, Grade 1
Great when used as a spine
I use this book with a 6 year old girl who loves animals.
I bought just the ACSI Gr.1 student text as a spine/student reader for this year. I did not care to use the full curriculum (so I did not purchase the teacher guide). I use this text as an outline of subjects for us to study each week (we cover 1 unit over 2 weeks, 2 lessons a week). The first Unit is Mammals, so we read through the textbook but we also supplemented with library books, kid encyclopedias, National Geographic dvds, and crafts/activities. I like that I can beef up this single, inexpensive book to make a full, rich/living science program...but if we're having a busy week, I can just fall back on the student text and know we've done *something* science -related for the week.
I also like that there are occasional references to God ("God made mammals" or something...) but it is not overwhelming or blatantly in your face. I wanted a Christian perspective to science, but not a Bible lesson (I do that separately).

ACSI science student book grade 1
this is an excellent science book for 1st graders. its packed with interesting facts and information. with biblical references that validate Gods scientific design of our world. every morning i look forward to doing science with the children. we're learning so much from this science book. i've decided to buy the teachers manual also. however the teachers manual is an option but not a neccesity as there is enough facts and experiments to do in the student book. the experiments are simple and you can find bits and bobs around the home to complete experiments. the lessons are only two pages each. so are short and informative. the pages are glossy, with illustrations of real people in everyday situations. no gimicky animated images here. some pages are crammed with pictures which make it look a bit busy. but definately eye catching. we give it a thumbs up.

An exciting new way to explore Science
This is such an exciting way for lower level students to explore God's creation. I look forward to using it this year.

What an excellent science curriculum! Developmentally appropriate, engages my child, and teaches the facts about science from a position of truth - creation!
