this is an excellent science book for 1st graders. its packed with interesting facts and information. with biblical references that validate Gods scientific design of our world. every morning i look forward to doing science with the children. we're learning so much from this science book. i've decided to buy the teachers manual also. however the teachers manual is an option but not a neccesity as there is enough facts and experiments to do in the student book. the experiments are simple and you can find bits and bobs around the home to complete experiments. the lessons are only two pages each. so are short and informative. the pages are glossy, with illustrations of real people in everyday situations. no gimicky animated images here. some pages are crammed with pictures which make it look a bit busy. but definately eye catching. we give it a thumbs up.

After being disappointed w/ BJU Science 1, I searched & searched & found ACSI Science (what I delight). Awesome book that is not watered down despite the grade level.Includes labeling the parts of animal learned. Pictures are colorful. Experiments are simple w/ little/no advance preparation using household items (no teacher's manual used). My child was fascinated to learn that fish have ears on the inside,taste with the body, & have no eyelids.Even my 3 year is loving all these neat facts. Definitely will purchase all future grade levels. You get so much at such a reasonable price!
