The Logic of the Heart: Augustine, Pascal, and the Rationality of Faith James R. Peters Retail Price: $32.99 CBD Price: $23.99 Buy 24 or more for $22.79 each.
( Only 3 in stock - order soon! Additional quantities may be backordered. ) The Logic of the Heart sets forth a case for the rationality of the Christian faith. It is a unique exercise in philosophical apologetics and an ambitious attempt to restore passionate reason to Christianity. Philosopher James Peters carefully analyzes the thought of Augustine and Blaise Pascal, but the also employs the writings of skeptic David Hume as a backdrop to this analysis in order to show the importance of harmonizing the head and the heart in matters of faith.
Peters ultimately finds the balance between the Enlightenment's overemphasis on human autonomy and reason alone and post-modernism's espousal of the creation of reality and interpretive freedom. He concludes that the proper use of reason--guided by the human heart--truly locates and embeds humans in the world and helps them to live wisely.

| Prophets and Gravestones: An Imaginative History of Montanists and Other Early Christians William Tabbernee Retail Price: $29.95 CBD Price: $19.99
( In Stock ) The world's leading expert on Montanism, William Tabbernee in Prophets and Gravestones has provided an excellent a definitive "narrative history" of this enigmatic and prophetic movement.
As a narrative history, this book tells the story of a man named Montanus who came from Phrygia in Asia Minor and who started, around 165 A.D. a movement which bears his own name called Montanism. Montanus attracted his following by declaring that he had been "filled with the Spirit" and that he knew Christ to be returning to quite soon to the city of Pepouza, located in the modern nation of Turkey.
While distinct from the Christianity of the day, this was by no means a sect or heretical movement, and was embraced eminent Christians of the day including Priscilla,
Maximilla, and the great Latin father and theologian Tertullian.
As a narrative history, this book will make excellent reading for anyone interested in Church History. Its style emphasizes the story, and its characters, but does not sacrifice scholarly precision, nor acumen. This is an excellent reading selection for any course in Early Christianity, and with its combination of peculiar historical circumstance, and controversial theology, will no doubt generate energetic discussion.

In this volume of The Classics of Western Spirituality we are presented with Late Medieval Mysticism of the Low Countries in texts from the School of Netherlandish Mysticism for the first time in English.
Many of the texts are taken directly from original medieval manuscripts and have never been previously published. Some are theological, others mystical, and still others are pastoral and yet all revolve around the concept of suffering, a reflection of the times in which they were written.
As primary sources these texts promise to provide rich reading for anyone involved in research of the Medieval period, and yet they are quite promising for laity as well as they detail the longings, thoughts, and life of those who came before us.

Moreover Boguslawski integrates his study of Aquinas' treatment of Romans 9-11 with the appropriate areas in the Summa Theologica demonstrating Thomas contribution not only from his Romans commentary, but also in his most influential work.
Boguslawski is preparing the first English translation ever of Thomas Aquinas' Commentary on Romans, and as such is a unique authority on Aquinas' thought in this regard. His translation promises to fill a much needed gap in biblical commentary, and provide fresh insight to this highly controversial text.

Library of Christian Classics - Alexandrian Christianity: Selected Translations of Clement and Origen Edited by Henry Chadwick and J. E. L. Oulton Retail Price: $39.95 CBD Price: $32.99 Buy 30 or more for $31.34 each.
( Only 2 in stock - order soon! Additional quantities may be backordered. ) This Volume in the Library of Christian Classics named Alexandrian Christianity covers the seminal writings of the great churchmen Clement of Alexandria, and the controversial theologian Origen. Titles include, On Marriage and On Spiritual Perfection (Clement), with selections from origin entitled, On Prayer, Exhortation to Martyrdom, and Dialogue with Heraclides (Origen).
Alexandria, one of the leading intellectual and cultural centers of the ancient world, also became the leading intellectual center of the church. Due to its excellent catechetical instruction Alexandria rose to prominence under Clement, and later reached its apex under Clement’s student Origen, and became, arguably, the most intellectually influential Christian center in the early church.
While Alexandria’s rise to prominence occurred for many reasons, there can be no doubt that its possession of the ancient world’s greatest library played a definitive role in shaping the culture and intellectual character of the Christianity that once lived there. Thus, the writings of these great theologians will not only inform the scholar seeking knowledge of the ancient church; they will also edify the lay reader who wants to understand better where and how our faith originated.
