Stacey4 Stars Out Of 5Another Terrific Adventure from MaryLu Tyndall!July 18, 2014StaceyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5MaryLu Tyndall's latest offering in the Escape to Paradise series, "Abandoned Memories", is the third book chronicling the second chance taken by a shipload of passengers hoping for a better life in Brazil. The settings are lush and exotic. The characters are fleshy and authentic. The physical and spiritual battles they face are even more real! More than once, these novels have confronted me about something that needed changing in my own life. This is not just entertainment - these are life-changing reads!
As I watched the characters develop from my armchair, I became frustrated with where I thought our leading lady was heading. I should have trusted MaryLu Tyndall not to develop a clichéd plotline! I was tempted to give up reading but I'm so glad I didn't. This is an incredible story with lots of dramatic twists and excitement.
KGD history teacher5 Stars Out Of 5Exciting ConclusionJuly 11, 2014KGD history teacherQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5For this exciting conclusion to the Escape to Paradise series, Marylu Tyndall focuses on the theme of redemption and forgiveness. The former Southerners who are now colonists in the jungles of Brazil seek to establish a Utopia after the end of the Civil War. They have worked to build huts, plant crops, and make new lives for themselves. Disaster after disaster begins to hit them. From torrential rains to army ants to fire and earthquakes, these events are destroying their colony and their will to remain in Brazil. Colonists are seeing visions of people who are not there. But what is causing these calamities? James, the pastor/doctor believes that they have their source in evil and destruction. How can they put a stop to this before they are all destroyed? Additionally, there are the pirates who have heard tales of fabulous gold in the area. Who will be their protection?
The two main characters of this book are Angelina who is trying to leave behind her past of prostitution and murder and James, the pastor/doctor. She keeps everyone, especially men, at arm's length, not wanting to be hurt again. James is seeking to leave his dissolute life behind, believing that it was the result of others tempting him to go astray. They both learn that "where imperfection lives, grace abounds."
Having read the two previous books, I was prepared for the events which took place. This is not a stand alone book. To best appreciate Abandoned Memories, you need to have read Forsaken Dreams and Elusive Hope. The author makes a strong statement about the presence of evil in the world and the power believers have over it.
I received a copy of this book from the Bookclub Network for my honest opinion.

A deeply moving and thrilling tale of two people trying to start new lives far away from their horrible pasts. The evil that lurks in the Brazil jungle makes that impossible and forces them to confront their pasts and realize they need God to forgive and move on. The characters are all so deep and real that you feel pain and fear along with them. Beautifully written and flowing, this story holds on to you until the very last page. I could NOT put it down!! It is action packed and a thrilling storyline!
