5 Stars Out Of 5
One of my Favorites!
March 15, 2014
I bought this book for only $3 at Dollar General store and originally thought it would be a 'discounted' story as well. As it turned out, I couldn't put the book down! Not only was it hilariously funny throughout, the characters were charming and endearing. I had several 'laugh out loud' moments while reading this book!
The two main characters were a married couple Wilson and Sylvia, who was trying to get the romance back in their marriage using a Proverbs 31 Bible study, (unbeknownst to her hubby), which was actually quite funny in itself.
I found it a bit refreshing that a romance novel could revolve around an 'already married' couple and their two young boys.
Most of the secondary characters were well developed and certain ones played an important role in the overall story. I love how the author tied up all the loose ends and brought everything seamlessly together at the end of the book, even tho' a few things were a bit predictable, it was still a very fun book to read! Highly recommend!
Well written Kim O'Brien!! I can't wait to read your other books!
I gave this book 4/5 stars. I thought the character development was well done. You could really see the main characters personality through the conversations written. What I did not like was the overly dramatic soap opera like story line. It just felt like a fake book. I like to read a book where you put it down feeling like the characters could be real people. I just could not relate to the women in this story. I am not saying don't read this book just that it was not to my personal liking.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
Sylvia yearns to feel loved and cherished by her husband, Wilson-just like the heroines in the romance novels she reads. She begins making changes, but her husband just isn't getting the message. So she starts a Proverbs 31 makeover. Wilson is totally confused by his wife's strange behavior and frustrated by the timing. Business is booming and he's up for a promotion. When Sylvia plans a big anniversary party, things start spiraling out of control. Can he and Sylvia rekindle the romance, or is too little too late?
I love the idea of this book. I appreciate books that build marriages and give practical advice for growing godly marriages. This book was full of thoughts, ideas and characteristics to help a marriage that might be struggling or might need refreshing.
I did have a hard time connecting fully with the characters and really getting interested in the story itself. It isn't where I am in my marriage and so it was difficult for me to engage with the story. The characters were not deep enough for me and I struggled to get a full sense of what they were feeling or wanting.
Kim O'Brien is a new author for me. I will have to try another one of her books to get a better feel for her writing style.
