This is a foundational book to read, covering an excellent range of teaching. He has written a doctrinal book that is not too wordy, yet provides ample content to present good solid teaching regarding doctrine. If you are a Ryrie enthusiast, I would recommend the Ryrie Study Bible, Balancing the Christian Life, and Survey of Bible Doctrine. Then go deeper with Basic Theology.

Virtually all "doctrine" books are abbreviated theology texts (which is not necessarily bad...). Not this book. It is concise and replete and generous with Scripture references. Neither technical nor oversimplistic, this book serves as an excellent guide for small group study. The text is well, but not obnoxiously, outlined. It is written from an evangelical and conservative perspective, dispensational on prophecy. Only the scarcity of graphics/charts keeps this classic from being a "5". Yet, I would not rate another "doctrine" book higher.
