Product Description

Michael Cannon has served for many years as a Military Chaplain, and has both seen the need for this manual and acted to meet that need. He has done tremendous research in gathering materials for this "Soldier's Catechism" including the following:
  • The Soldier's Catechism used in Oliver Cromwell's "New Model Army"
  • The Soldier's Pocket Bible which comes from the same period of time, and contains hundreds of passages centered around themes addressed to the soldier.
  • Significant quotations from the Creeds and Confessionsof the Church of Jesus Christ

    Author/Artist Review

    Author: Michael Cannon

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am an Army chaplain with some 22 years of military service. I am also ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America and have begun to pastor a Church in Augusta, GA as I transition from the military back to civilian life.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I am not content simply to say that we have a values problem in America, I am trying to create tools to help us recapture a virtuous society.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Understanding that values are caught rather than taught, I am hoping to use the ancient tool of a catechism to communicate virtues in a question and answer format and then by using several other tools within the catechism, give the reader a full exposure to the meaning and the essence of the virtue being discussed.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I am a big fan of almost anything that Ravi Zacharius puts on paper. I also read R.C. Sproul, D.A. Carson, David Wells, and Os Guinness.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This book is best read and then passed on to an American citizen serving in any branch of the Armed Forces.
