Three young friends enter the most important season of their lives. But relationships have changed, and only time will tell if Lindsay, Katie, and Lizzie Anne have made the right choices.
Three young women are about to change their lives: Lizzie Anne and Samuel have decided to get married, and Lindsay is about to be baptized into the Amish faith and is being courted by Matthew. While Katie Kauffman is happy for her friends who seem to have settled their futures, she is also finding herself something of a fifth wheel.
When Lindsays sister Jessica returns to Bird-in-Hand, she finds that Jake Miller has moved on with his life. He lost hope that Jessica would ever be satisfied to settle in rural Pennsylvania and takes comfort in becoming close friends with Katie. However, its not an easy road as Jake is Mennonite and Katie has just been baptized. Her father forbids them to see each other, adamant that his daughter marry an Amish man.
Take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where youll meet the delightful women of the Kauffman Amish Bakery in Lancaster County. As each womans story unfolds, you will share in her joys, dreams . . . and secrets. Youll discover the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle and, most importantly, you will be encouraged by the hope and faith of these women, and the importance they place on their families.

TunesareusVirginia1 Stars Out Of 5Juvenile, unrealistic, contains spoiler alertSeptember 3, 2015TunesareusVirginiaQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 1This book is very repetitive and mostly a lot of childish drivel. A middle schooler might find this interesting, but as an adult, I found it juvenile and boring.
Beyond that, it was pretty unrealistic too. There was very little development of the love story. Rational people just don't turn their worlds upside down over someone they decide they're in love with one day that they weren't the day before. Also, the way the main character's father treats her is abominable at times. I can't imagine putting up with being treated that way, nor would I want to encourage an impressionable teenager to think they should.
SPOILER ALERT: And the ending is completely unbelievable. I'm no expert, but I don't buy a Mennonite converting to Amish; they don't believe the same things about Jesus or salvation or missions (among other things I'd guess). You just don't go from a saving faith and personal relationship with the Savior to a religion that doesn't even believe this is possible. That notwithstanding, faith that "changes" just to be with someone else, isn't genuine faith. A poor message to any reader, especially a young one.
I really found nothing uplifting about this book. A pitty; the first few in this series were much better. I only kept reading to complete the series and because I hoped it would get better, but I ended up sorry I wasted my time on it. I recommend skipping it; it adds nothing to the series.

I knew it! I just knew Lindsay would never leave her family and friends and go back out into the world, like her sister Jessica did
Amy Clipston is a marvel at continuing a story, selecting one character, then another, to focus on in each novel. Once again, I must say how much I enjoyed getting to know Lindsay, Rebecca, Jake, Kathryn, Timothy and Miriam, and especially Caleb and Naomi. It takes an amazing, inspiring writer to take someone like Naomi, and show how she grows and matures, changing through each novel, until she is beloved of everyone. I declare, there were times I wanted to smack Sadie (and maybe even her mom).
But it all worked out for the best even better than I hoped and I was thrilled to find that in the very next novel, Caleb and Naomi were married and expecting a boppli of their own.
Amy is such a talented writer, she even makes you like Jessica (that took awhile)!
At the end of A Life of Joy (book 4) Lindsay had decided to return to Bird-in-Hand, an Amish community in Pennsylvania. Everything works out and Lindsay is surprised when Matthew meets her at the train station, then she gets to surprise her Aenti Rebecca with her returning home.
This is said to the final book in the Kauffman Amish Bakery Series, although if Amy Clipston were to surprise us with another, I would be thrilled and Im certain all of her fans agree with me. However, to be fair, after five full-size novels and two novellas + a young adult novel, perhaps Amy feels that the story is finished at least for her.
But heres your chance, readers if you would really enjoy reading another sequel to the Kauffman Amish Bakery Series, leave a comment here for Amy to read. Perhaps we could convince her that theres another story left!
tiggerireLancaster, PAAge: 35-44Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Just did not keep my interestDecember 21, 2013tiggerireLancaster, PAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI was disappointed. The plot was kind of scattered and didn't keep my interest. I live in Lancaster and hear Deutch all the time....having the characters saying certain words (like Heemet) too many times in a row was just annoying and didn't seem genuine.
Heart2HeartVictorville, CAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Sorry to see this series end! 5 stars!!!December 14, 2012Heart2HeartVictorville, CAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Poor Katie Kauffman has found herself in one of the worst predicaments imaginable. After returning back to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, back to the bakery she loves, she finds her best friends Lindsay and Lizzie Ann have found great Amish men to begin their courting. Katie on the other hand seems to think that she will grow old and only have the love of baking to keep her warm at nights. After finally being baptized as part of the Amish faith alongside her friends, she suddenly finds herself a bit of the odd person out. While Lindsay and Lizzie talk about wedding plans and of what type of life they envision for their families, Katie can't help but feel left out.
When she finds comfort in Jake Miller, a boy that works for her grandfather's shop as a carpenter apprentice, she finds herself attracted to him in ways she would have never imagined. She knows there isn't any possibility for them to go any further than just friends. Jake is a Mennonite while she comes from a strong and strict Amish family. They can never been anything more than just friends. However when Katie and Jake find themselves in a compromising situation, Katie's father, Robert rages out of control and ground Katie for a month. He forbids her to have anything to do with Jake even as just friends. However with Jake working with Katie's grandfather Eli on a cabinet for the bakery, it seems that there is more than fate pulling them together. Will Katie find a way to forget what can never be between Jake and herself? Or will Jake's long lost first love, Jessica be the only way out for them both?
In the conclusion to the Kauffman Amish Bakery Series, A Season of Love by Amy Clipston takes the reader in the 5th book to see how the remaining characters we've come to love and adore wrap up their lives. Lindsay Bedford returns from Virginia Beach with her GED in hand believing she can be just as smart as her sister, Jessica and finds a way to prove it. Now returning back to Pennsylvania where Katie has been caring for her ailing Aunt Rebecca who has been confined to bed rest due to complications with her pregnancy. Lindsay believes she is finally read to become Amish and in the process will see if love awaits her on the other side. Katie has to deal with her father's issues about dealing with what he believes is proper without waiting for all the facts to come in. It shows how damaging rumors and perception can be to an Amish family and must in fact cost her to be shunned. This is truly an unforgettable novel to wrap up life with the Kauffman family. You can read this one as a stand alone but trust me, you will want to go back and read them all. This is truly an exceptional ending to this series.
I received A Season of Love by Amy Clipston compliments of Barbour Publishing and Net Galley for my honest review and I have to say, I gladly give this one a 5 out of 5 stars.
