Product Description

A small Alabama town in the mid-50's. A lazy summer afternoon. No concerns for Fannie Lea besides her dreadful name. No concerns, that is, until she and her brother trespass on Boyd's property. Then, it's a grip around the waist, a knife to her throat and Boyd's breath. Soon the young preacher's daughter discovers secrets regarding other Sugar Hill residents. She learns the mystery behind Boyd's locked upstairs room, and eventually she places herself in danger to save a soul more helpless than herself.

A Promise for Tomorrow is a nostalgic, heartwarming, humorous and at times suspenseful story worthy to be made into a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. It is refreshing to experience small town Alabama in the 1950s through the eyes of Flea, an imaginative, sweet tomboy with a taste for adventureand she surely finds it. If you liked To Kill a Mockingbird, Father Knows Best, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Nancy Drew books, you will find it hard to put this book down.

Sara DuBoses language takes you right to the time and place of the setting of A Promise For Tomorrow. The narration has a slow pace which conforms precisely to 1955 Alabama. This novel is well-written, but not my cup of tea. As an avid suspense/mystery reader, the pace is a bit too slow for me. I prefer when the novel opens in the midst of an action sequence, gripping me immediately. This novel simply lost my attention before the action began.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Sara DuBose

Tell us a little about yourself.  There is an old gospel song that says, "I'm nothing but a sinner saved by grace." How true! But, if you want to know something about my writing career, here we go: Before attempting a novel, I wrote articles and stories for Home Life, Family Life Today, Virtue, Today's Christian Woman, Decision and others. My stories also appear in several anthologies with Multnomah and Barbour. One non-fiction, Conquering Anxiety, was written on assignment for the Presbyterian Church in America. After this, I wrote three novels: Where Hearts Live, Where Love Grows, and Where Memories Linger. Right now, I am concentrating on this new release, A Promise for Tomorrow.

What was your motivation behind this project?  My husband and I had an interesting experience concerning an old abandoned house. Something happened there to trigger my imagination and set the story in motion. I then wrote a pitch and won a first place award with Putting Your Passion into Print. This one event provided enough adrenalin to finish the novel.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want to offer spiritual encouragement to parents, child advocates, teachers, and counselors who minister to children, especially those children with learning disabilities, or adults who suffer with alcohol or drug dependence. And, although it may be a cliche, I want readers to laugh and cry with my characters.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  When I was a child I had a younger friend with a learning disability who taught me a great deal about love and acceptance. I want this story to be a tribute to her and to all children with special needs.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  For laughter, Kathryn Tucker Windham. Theology, R.C. Sproul, J.I, Packer and D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. Fiction, Harper Lee and many others.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Paul told the Christians in Ephesus to "Put on the full armor of God..." (Eph. 6: 11). We need it today as much as then. If our holy armor is in place, we will succeed in Christ's calling upon our lives and bring honor to Him.
