I've never read a book from this author. I feel in love with this book and could not stop reading it. I now plan on buying the book for my own personal library. It would be a great tool for a new believer.
Philip TuttSacramento, CAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Incomplete but highly suggestiveAugust 20, 2012Philip TuttSacramento, CAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The author of this book is a retired Catholic priest. He manages, in spite of some obvious "lapses" into orthodoxy, to construct a picture of Jesus which is simple, but not simpleminded. His approach is to discuss Jesus as one might envision him under several of the principal themes of his ministry, such as God's abiding love for humanity. Anyone looking to this work for a theological discussion of Jesus' teachings will be disappointed. But that is not Fr. Girzone's purpose. Instead, he reaches back, beyond the centuries of doctrinal accretions which have all but buried Jesus, to paint a portrait of the human figure to whom so many were attracted, and who now seems altogether missing from what calls itself "Christianity" in our time. The portrait is essentially a sketch, incomplete and perhaps not amenable to completion, except by each of us individually, out of a commitment to Jesus which, if it is to be vital and sustaining, must necessarily be intimate. That may well be Fr. Girzone's great insight.

MilfordAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Joseph Girzone makes reading a book a spiritual experience. Joshua was a story that made Jesus become real for me. I've read it three times. A Portrait of Jesus does it all over again but in a different perspective. Mr. Girzone describes in detail along with scripture who the true Jesus is and what he really is all about. His message and the depth of his love for ALL God's children. Anybody really wanting to acheive a closer personal relationship with God's Son needs to own this book and share it with others.
