An Insightful (Yet Short) Book On Thinking
March 12, 2013
So this is a short book and can easily be digested in one sitting. White's premise is rather straight-forward - that Christians should be marked by thinking. He obviously feels quite passionate about this, as he himself is a well-read man (he is fantastic at quoting all sorts of sources, both Christian and non, popular and ancient etc). I agreed with his overall premise and I agree that there is sadly too much Biblical illiteracy and thinking by believers that hasn't been transformed Christ.
I would recommend this book for any Christian who is perhaps is on a new journey in trying to learn what it means for Christ to take hold of your head and not simply your heart. Among the appendices are lists of books and other resources that would be helpful in this journey. It might serve as a useful aid to mature teenagers who want to go beyond much of the watered down youth group material that exists.
My main objection is that it is incredibly short. There seems to be a mild irony in this, as a book that supposed to be on the value of having a mind for God might seem more convincing if it had more to say. But maybe I'm just over-thinking it. At any rate, it does serve as a good intro to White, who is a successful pastor and professor (I had him during my seminary days and I appreciated his down-to-earth style and unique take on theology).
