The characters are so real. I thought Gray was too good to be true, but he does get hurt and angry, too. Much like my own hubby. I belted out "Jesus loves me, this I know...." You'll know why when you read the book. *winks* I am reminded that even if I have made mistakes, God's grace will redeem me. He will forgive me when I repent and turn away from sin, because He still loves me. He always will.
The plot is interesting as her mom seems to control all aspects of her life. I know that feeling, especially when I want to break free of expectations, limits, and rules that are imposed on me. The story is different from the other books in the Year of Weddings series because it's told in first person perspective. But, the way it was written had me thinking it was in third person point of view. So weird!
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends since it's romantic but not too mushy. It also shows the importance of communication in relationships.

Caught pulling weeds in a church garden during a "guerrilla" wedding, Ellie finds herself face-to-face with Gray, a handsome cowboy attending his friend's wedding. Through a quick romance, Ellie finds herself falling in love with Gray while planning her sister's wedding and trying to convince her mom of his worth, which proves to be harder than it seems. A May Bride is part of A Year of Wedding Novellas.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Short, quick, sweet, funny_this novella was wonderful for a busy time in life. Though predictable, considering the brevity of the story, it was well written and enjoyable. I loved the humor with which Ellie thought to herself. The generation differences between mother and her daughters were also quite amusing albeit viable. Meg Moseley is a favorite author of mine (A Stillness of Chimes) and this novella was a nice installment to add to my wedding novella collection.

The story outlined a very legitimate struggle and very practical challenges especially involving members of the family.
I like the way the author, Meg Moseley, enumerated the struggle and narrated the conversations that took place between the characters. I felt like it was very true to real life and the situations are very possible.
kp07194 Stars Out Of 5A May BrideMay 27, 2014kp0719Quality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4On the opening pages of A May Bride, written by Meg Moseley, you meet Ellie Martin. The reader finds her in a precarious situation!
Ellie is gardening at a local church, in an attempt to relieve stress in her life; when suddenly she is surrounded by a group of people trying to conduct a spontaneous wedding! She recognizes a handsome man in the group, he is often at a local coffee shop at the same time she is. He catches her eye and Ellie's world is turned upside down!
Ellie learns that this man's name is Gray Whitby and before she knows it, he asks her on a date. Ellie has been dreaming about her wedding for years and know it seems she has found the perfect man! All seems great except for the fact the Ellie's mother has chased off Ellie's boyfriends in the past.
Enjoy this easy to read tale about Ellie and Gray's journey toward their wedding day through some very complicated family situations!
Fitzysmom4 Stars Out Of 5May 26, 2014FitzysmomEllie is by nature a rule follower instead of a rule breaker. Except for when she sneaks onto the neighborhood church grounds to tend the gardens to relieve her stress. Pulling weeds and putting order into chaos is her thing. She's just not all that keen on admitting it and asking permission to pursue her therapy.
One early morning she is happily plucking weeds from the church's flower beds when a guerilla wedding hastily invades the garden. Ellie finds herself caught so she quickly hides behind some bushes. She thinks she's safe but little does she know that she's caught the eye of handsome Gray Whitby.
Not only does Gray turn her ordered existence into impulsive adventure, but he also steals her heart along the way. Ellie would love to keep her relationship with Gray a secret but at some point she's gotta break down and tell her momma. And that's where the drama begins!
For such a short story this one contains a whole lot of reading pleasure. First of all I had never heard of a guerilla wedding. What a fun and spontaneous concept! I also loved the storyline of Ellie and her momma. You could clearly see that Ellie's mom wanted the best for her, she was just over the top protective trying to make sure Ellie didn't make the same mistakes she has made. Then there is the sister Alexa. She's younger and over indulged, but Ellie loves her and would do anything to bring her happiness. With all of this smother love how is Ellie ever going to leave and cleave?
The mixed family dynamics were such a great backdrop to this novella. If you are from a Southern family and happen to have a Southern momma, you're going to totally get this book. If you don't . . . well, it's still a delightful little read.
