Sarah Prescott has never known a respectable life; just a hardscrabble childhood and brothers who taught her to shoot straight.

Justin Wells left Boston in disgrace, heading out alone on the dusty trail to Texas. But when the once-respected clergyman encounters a feisty redhead in handcuffs with a dying US Marshall at her side, their journey takes a dramatic turn.

In Margaret Brownley’s A Lady Like Sarah, the author explores aspects of expressing love and grace through all circumstances. Rev. Justin Wells is traveling to Texas for a new preaching job when he stumbles upon a stubborn female outlaw, Sarah Prescott. The two experience a vast range of emotions as they travel through wild prairies, deserts, and hostile territories. Their feelings for each other vary from loss and pain to fulfillment and love.

This book is fast-paced and keeps the reader yearning for the next page. Main characters Justin and Sarah are both extremely passionate, and whereas they certainly love each other, each has a different demeanor or way of expressing his or her feelings. Perhaps one of the best scenes to illustrate their love is found midway in the book when Justin finally gets up the nerve to admit his love for Sarah, after which they both are left wondering what this will mean to their futures. It’s an awkward, yet very poignant scene.

The conflict of the overall plot intensifies continually. On the one hand, Justin is on his way to serve as the new pastor of the church at Rocky Creek, Texas, and excited about ministering to the local parishioners. On the other hand, Sarah is a labeled an outlaw on the run, attempting to stay as far away from Rocky Creek as possible. If Sarah returns with Justin to Rocky Creek and clears her name, she and Justin can be married. But if she doesn’t clear her name, she could be hanged.

Justin is gentle, forgiving, and kind-hearted. Sarah is a stubborn, rebellious, and independent-natured, although she secretly yearns to find true love and meaning in her life. Justin has never known life outside the city, whereas Sarah is equipped with many survival skills. Along their way they unexpectedly are forced into caring for an abandoned baby named Elizabeth. Justin cuddles the baby and nurtures it, but roughhewn Sarah is afraid to hold it because she might “break” the child. Interaction with the infant often provides comic relief for the storyline.

This book is an adventure that takes unexpected twists and turns. The author allows the reader to experience what life was like traveling through the Old West and at the same time brings to light many important aspects of the Christian life. Ephesians 4:2-3 says, “Be patient with each other’s faults because of your love. Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind yourselves together with peace.” This verse is one of the best at depicting Sarah and Justin’s journey. This book is geared toward all women, teenagers and older. This is one of the best historical novels I have read, and it has many great insights for Christians. – Micah York, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Fugitive Sarah Prescott and the Reverend Justin Wells certainly prove the axiom that "opposites attract" when the traveling pastor finds the lovely outlaw handcuffed, nearly dehydrated and accompanied by a mortally wounded U. S. Marshal. Fortunately, there are always two sides to a story and Sarah insists that her death sentence has been conjured up by a host of disreputable lawmen; she has killed no one, even though she has lived most of her life on the run with her notorious gang of brothers.

Justin Wells knows about false accusations; he has left Boston and made the lonely trek towards Texas on horse back after being falsely accused. Interestingly enough his next pastorate is in Rocky Creek, Texas, the very town where Sarah will be sent to the gallows when apprehended. Justin has never met anyone like the feisty redhead with swagger of a cowboy and conversation skills as tactful as a wild buffalo, but one thing is apparent and that is; Sarah needs a miracle.

This is a delightful romantic western on the surface and a deeply moving expression of faith between an unlikely convert and her God underneath. The characters are wonderfully cast and the story line has more than one cliff hanger; the perfect combination for an outstanding book!

This was the first book I read from Margaret Brownley and was I amazed! It was so well written that I could see everything happening in my mind as I read. I started the book one evening and couldn't put it down until it was finished. I would love to see a movie made from this. I can't wait until the next one comes out. I will and have been highly recommending this book to everyone.

This was a very entertaining book. I enjoyed all the characters. I can hardly wait until the next book comes out to see what happens to Sarah's brothers. I also wrote and complimented the author on her book and she took the time to write me a personal note back. I think that is great also.

Well I'll be. I am for certainly unsure if I can say enough good things about the book "A Lady Like Sarah" or my new favorite author Margaret Brownley (and no it is not because of her elegant name). As many of you that read my reviews know, my favorite Christian Historical Romantic Comedy author of American west novels is Mary Connealy... well I can honestly say that Margaret Brownley rates right up there with this book and I am ecstatically (is that a word?) excited for more. More Rocky Creek Romance or more anything, just give me more.I was amused. I giggled and grinned. I chuckled and snuggled down further in my reading nook. I was irritated and emotional. I shed slight tears. I could hear Sarah's voice and see her boots. These characters were alive and amazing to me. I read an ARC, but you better believe this is one for the keeper shelf. On a final note: The saloon scene made me squeal and cry, and I love my fellow quilters and that is all I have to say about that.
