I find this book to promote liberal views of the Bible in the first section. For example, the last paragraph on page 15 seems to reject fulfilled prophesy. The last paragraph on page 21 refers to Genesis 1-11 as "before history," i.e., NOT history (myths). These chapters are foundational to Christian doctrine, and are the most mythologized, minimized, ridiculed and attacked of any part of the Bible. On page 29, second paragraph, the author talks about contradictions in the Bible without any counterbalancing discussion of inerrancy, infallibility, etc. It seems that the book provides a good overview for a seeker, but at the same time promotes major questions about the truth and authority of Holy Scripture.

I found this to be an excellent resource. It is succinct and clear, and its format is such that it is almost like a miniature encyclopedia of both the Christian beliefs and the beliefs of other religions and off-shoots of the Christian faith. I've bought eight copies so far for friends and relatives and will probably buy more.

I used this book for an adult introductory class on the Christian faith and every class member loved it--many thought every Christian should read it!Schwarz gives an excellent summary of Christian beliefs, an overview of the structure, people, events and teachings of the Old and New Testaments, a simple yet informative overview of Church history and some basics on Christian living.The author knows his stuff, but writes in a simple and interesting style that everyone in my classes has liked and understood.I have not seen any other books quite like this one and I highly recommend it for anyone investigating the Christian faith or any Christians wanting one book that touches on everything about their faith.
