A Good Foundation Influences a Decision

Jackson's book initially was a turn off because it continually focuses on our sinfulness. Years ago, when I was more literal, that approach would've reeled me in. But I dug in because I wanted more guidance in determining God's will in my life. Basically, he assumes a foundation of what he calls the Big 5 -- study of the Bible, prayer, consulting other more experienced Christians, circumstances and inner peace -- with which I've come to agree are needed before making a decision. Then he covers stumbling blocks within us and how to counteract them. Then he focuses on trust in God, which is already stressed by the Big 5. So the answer is we don't know what God's will is for us, but we can be pretty sure if our decision is in line with the Big 5 -- even when times get hard.
