Product Description

Based on historical characters and events, A Gathering of Finches tells the story of a turn-of-the-century Oregon coastal couple and the consequences of their choices, as seen through the eyes of the wife, her sister, and her Indian maid. Along the way, the reader will discover reasons to trust that money and possessions can't buy happiness or forgiveness, nor permit us to escape the consequences of our choices. The story emphasizes the message that real meaning is found in the relationships we nurture and in living our lives in obedience to God.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed this book and didn't think of it as being non-christian. It clearly showed there are consequences to our actions. Also, the more the main characters, Louis and Cassie began to focus on others and less on themselves the happier they became. It held my interest throughout the entire book.

Great research, lousy story. I could find this kind of non-Christian message on the shelves of Wal-Mart. Surprising for Kirkpatrick and Multnomah.

Thought this was a new book from Jane, it's actually a 1997 redo. Not impressed with the story line and found nothing and no one to cheer for. It was a most hallow ending and I am not sure this should ever have been labeled as a spiritual work to begin with. I know Multnomah was purchased by Random House, so I guess we can expect more watered down books under "Christian" headings. Highly disappointing on every level - but Jane's historical research, which is flawless.

Most disappointing read. The central couple, Cass and Louie feast on their adultery and though minor hints are revealed as Cass is dying, there is no reconciliation with God in any means. The research is remarkable, but definitely not a Christian work. I expected more of Jane.
