Tell us a little about yourself. I am currently a cardiologist in private practice in Fayetteville, NC. I spent 11 years on active duty repaying my scholarship to the Army. My wife is a pediatrician and we have three elementary age children.
What was your motivation behind this project? I kept the journal for the benefit of my young children so that they would have a detailed account of what I did during the war. I was inspired to convert the journal into a book based on the feedback I received from friends and family after I had returned home.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? This book is the condensed version of the journal I kept during the initial year of the war while I was serving at an Army Combat Support Hospital in Iraq. Readers will gain new insight into our daily experiences and the challenges we faced as health care providers during a war.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My book is dedicated to my wife and children who were the real heroes in my year long deployment.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I was pleasantly surprised that God used the deployment to draw me closer to him and my faith actually grew in the midst of the hardship.
