I've watched all the movies, read (most) articles, and and have read the books! Ever since I got my hands on the movie Pearl Harbor, I was hooked to this time period. Combine it with my love of history and it became my fascination. I also have a great hobby of reading good, clean Christian Romance fiction. When I came across this book on Amazon Kindle during a sale, I didn't hesitate to purchase it. World War II AND Christian romance? Score!! I finished the book in a week (even though I would've finished it sooner if I hadn't of gotten interrupted). This is a fabulous book!
Sarah Sundin created raw and complex characters that draw you in right to the heart. I felt like Allie at times...laughed with her, cried with her...it was emotional. I'm so thankful that it was very clean. There are a few little conversations with the other flyboys and their slightly wandering eyes, but clean nonetheless. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone!
TinaSwitzerlandAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful book!February 7, 2014TinaSwitzerlandAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book totally exceeded my expectations! I could hardly put it down and the story touched my heart. Eventhough it's a fictional story, you get a little insight into life during WWII. I'm looking forward to read the second and third book of the series.
Randomgirl1990Beaver, PAAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent bookFebruary 1, 2014Randomgirl1990Beaver, PAAge: 18-24Gender: femaleMeets Expectations: 5Even though I did not buy this book from CBD, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sarah Sundin has a way of drawing her reader in and making them feel like they are part of the story. As I was reading, it burned me up the way that Allie's family trumped her wishes and even though she broke the engagement to Baxter, they still tried to make her go through with the wedding even after she cancelled everything. Mrs. Sundin made me feel like I was actually there, experiencing everything with Allie and Walter.
P.S. I wish there was a present-day war effort like there was back then. It would give me something constructive to do with my time and it would be a very worthy cause.
Ruth Axtell MorrenMaineAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great WWII storyJune 8, 2012Ruth Axtell MorrenMaineAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is one of the best Christian historical romances I've read lately. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it because it was supposed to involve a correspondence between the hero & heroine for much of the story, which meant they'd be apart a good while (a no-no in a romance). But the author made up for this by having such a good development to their friendship/relationship in the first third of the book. One of Sundin's strengths is excellent dialogue between the hero and heroine. Their wit was so catching, you could just feel the growing chemistry between two shy people. When they were apart, there was such interesting stuff going on and good interactions among the secondary characters, which made up for the separation of the two main characters. The World War II details, especially about flying, were so well done and authentic-sounding. There were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments for me, and one tear jerking one (reading Walt's grandfather's letter to him). I look forward to reading the other two books in this series.

Tell us a little about yourself. I live in northern California with my husband, three, children, an antisocial cat, and an overly social yellow lab. I work on-call as a hospital pharmacist and teach Sunday school and women's Bible studies. A Distant Melody is my first novel.
What was your motivation behind this project? The premise for this story rose from a "what if" question raised in another project I was working on - which only worked in a historical setting. I watched a History Channel special on the US Eighth Air Force based in England during World War II, and I was impressed with what those men endured for our freedom. Since my great-uncle flew a B-17 bomber with the Eighth Air Force, I had access to his stories and letters - and I had my link.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope readers will gain an appreciation for what people went through during World War II, both in combat and on the Home Front. I also hope they'll learn from my characters' mistakes - to understand the importance of honesty and of obeying the Lord. And I hope young women will realize you don't have to be beautiful to find true love.
