This book has been written to outline the worldview, practices and history of Islam, to help non-Muslims understand their Muslim friends and neighbours better. Topics covered include the Islamic sacred books and articles of faith, the key religious observances, and the differences to be found among Muslims. The story of Islam is traced from its beginnings in the 7th century to the present. Non-Muslims who read this book will gain an understanding of why Muslims think and act as they do.
This little book is a helpful mine of factual information and practical advice.
...clearly and concisely describes the major facets of that faith and is punctuated with helpful insights for those seeking positive ways to relate as Christian witnesses to Muslims.

It is just that, providing a brief introduction for the one hoping to begin dialoguing with Muslim neighbors and coworkers. It is a helpful tool to place in the hands of the average church member, but its 144 pages are much too brief to gain a solid comprehension of Islamic doctrine. That said, it is a good place to begin! The author is to be commended for packing essential information into such a small volume, including a history of Islam, Islamic beliefs and customs, the differences between Islamic sects, a glossary of Islamic terms, a chronology of Muhammad's life, an overview of the 114 suras of the Koran, and a recommended reading list for those desiring to study further.

Small book lends itself to busy people who want an overview of Islam. I have used this book twice in 2 different churches as a guide for a study of Islam from a Christian perspective. Dr. Patrick does an excellent job of giving basic, clear descriptions of various rituals and beliefs of Muslims. Having been a Muslim before turning to Christ, and with his ongoing ministry experience, he is an excellent resource!
