The straight-laced Blanche Lamar feels all alone in the world...having recently lost her mother to death, and her father many years ago to life on the river. J.O. Lamar, Blanche's father and captain of the steamboat, Cordelia, had started running it up and down the Rio Grande before she was ever born. After her mother's death, Blanche receives a summons from her father via handsome Ike Gallagher, stipulating that she must spend time aboard the Cordelia before she can inherit it.
Thus begins the adventure of a lifetime as the sheltered Blanche learns how to steer the great riverboat under the tutelage of the delightful and crusty Old Obie, and butts heads with the gambling rogue, Ike, over how the Cordelia should be run. Will she learn to love life on the river?...even as dangers of the heart and the calamities of the Rio Grande threaten to engulf her? Is her father still alive...and if so, where is he and why did he desert Blanche and her mother all those many years ago? And is her relationship with Ike doomed from the start since he is not a believer?
This is the first book I have read from this author and it was a delight! Full of adventure, wonderful main and secondary characters (I loved Old Obie!), and interspersed with the message of salvation and redemption, this one is guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings. This is a light, well-written, clean read that even your teenage daughters would love! Nicely done, Ms. Franklin!

From the Back Cover: Love and faith collide in a river of doubt.
Penniless and brokenhearted following her mother's death, Blanche Lamar is surprised to receive a mysterious summons from a father she's never met. Then ship purser Ike Gallagher informs her that her father, Captain J. O. Lamar, has died and left her the steamboat Cordelia as her inheritance.
In spite of her reservations about life aboard a steamboat and without other resources, Blanche agrees to travel downriver from Roma, Texas, and talk with her father's lawyers. She soon discovers a different side to her father as she's befriends by the curmudgeonly pilot, Old Obie. As Obie teaches her to pilot the steamboat, he also encourages her to trust her growing feelings toward Ike, something she's resisting.
But as circumstances conspire to tear Blanche and Ike apart, they must act on faith or sink any possibility of a future together.
Can they navigate the turbulent river of love?
Me, I like boats. I enjoy being on the water in a boat. Put me on a cruise ship and I am one happy person. With "A Bride's Rogue in Roma, Texas" Darlene Franklin puts us on a steamboat in Texas of all places. What more can we ask for? "A Bride's Rogue in Roma, Texas" gives us much, much more. It is a book of romance as Blanche meets Ike and they fall in love. It is an adventure novel as the duo try to make the steamboat work to restore her lost fortune and Ike's reputation. Then there is the theme of restoration: The Cordelia itself as well as that of the two lead characters. Darlene Franklin is an expert at bringing historical events to life while weaving in the fictional aspects of the story in a seamless flowing pattern. She makes you care for all the people involved and takes you along for the journey. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well. Ms. Franklin has a great way of telling the story and moving it along at a nice pace. Her characters are wonderful and she gives them life and unique voices. Well done.

GingerS2194 Stars Out Of 5a GREAT Sunday afternoon readOctober 3, 2012GingerS219Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Sometimes the next step that God asks us to take has to be on pure faith. Uncertainty causes us to hesitate, but the still small voice sends us forward. So it was with Blanche.
She takes that step of faith and joins Ike on the steamboat, beginning a new season in her life.
Most times that step requires us to release where we are, so we can travel forward. It's not always easy, as we see in this story.
I enjoyed reading A Bride's Rogue in Roma, Texas and if you enjoy a light romance, you will too.
***I received this book for the purpose of review. The above is my honest opinion.***
