Like society the book is not full of 'perfect' characters so you can see them change and grow throughout the book.

She runs from Dallas to North Carolina to escape a painful past to a place she felt safe when she was a child. She finds a home with Iola Poole on a temporary basis but does not allow herself to get to know her. Then, when Iona dies, Tandi agrees to help clean out her home and in doing so, she discovers 81 boxes of prayers. As Tandi reads them, she not only discovers how strong and faithful her landlady was, but how loving God is. As she gets to know her landlady, she makes a decision about what kind of person she wants to be not only for herself, but also for her children. I found this book to be heart-warming and it made me ask myself the same question: what kind of woman do I want to be and what kind of example do I want to leave for my family.

The Outer Banks seems like a safe place to go. It is the one place from her childhood where she felt safe and she has wonderful memories of time spent there with her grandparents.
Shortly after moving there, Tandi finds the body of her elderly landlady, Iola Poole, who died peacefully in her sleep. Tandi is charged with cleaning out the home and discovers boxes and boxes of letters written by Iola to her Father.
Through the written prayers of Iola, Tandi begins to see glimpses of hope and learns to trust others. She learns it is possible to have new beginnings, and sees the power of forgiveness and prayer at work. I loved this book!
McGuiremamaColoradoAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Recommended ReadAugust 22, 2014McGuiremamaColoradoAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4A good read with a strong theme of redemption. I know I find myself evaluating where I'm at in life and wishing I had done "this" better or "that" different. That said, it made it very easy to relate to the storyline. I was completely inspired to start keeping up my own prayer letters and boxes, not knowing who I may impact down the road, even if I never meet them. If you're looking for something a little different, but still interesting and fun, this is a good book!
elinsmomAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Unexpectedly GoodJuly 29, 2014elinsmomAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI really enjoyed this book. I didn't know anything about it going in. I was expecting a fluffy beach read, but it was so much more. I highly recommend if you want something with a little more substance to read by the pool this summer.
