I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue very much. It kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. The heroine and hero had both had more than their share of extremely difficult circumstances with which to deal. Their experiences from the past were enough to scar a person for life but stuff just kept happening. I started wondering if there would ever be an end in sight to the tragedies or answers to all their questions. Just when you thought they were catching a break, something else would occur. About two-thirds of the way through, I started getting a little suspicious about one of the characters but things really didn't shake out until right at the end of the book. Most of the ending took me by surprise. The romance was there but it was not the overriding story line for me. I was caught up in the suspense. If you like a lot of suspense, a bit of romance, and a touch of faith all put together into a great story, I recommend this book to you.

I recently discovered Patricia Bradley as an author. She writes Christian Suspense and I've read three of her books. All are page turners. Shadows of the Past is the first book in the Logan Point romantic suspense series. You can read them as stand alones. The books will capture your attention, hook you in and you won't want to stop reading because you want to see what happens next.

Taylor Martin is a Psychology professor and a criminal profiler. She's been able to solve most of her cases except the one where her father disappeared twenty years ago. Nick Sinclair is a mystery writer and still blames himself for his wife's death. Follow these two as they try to solve mysteries, forgive themselves and try to solve the clues that are dropped along the way. Sorry I can't tell you more about the book but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you like puzzles, then Patricia Bradley's books are for you.

I did read them out of order but it didn't matter. She writes suspense that grabs and holds onto you. It only took one book to add her to my favorite author's list. You won't be disappointed in her books.

I received this book from Patricia Bradley and all she asked was that I read this book and leave an honest review. I don't give 5 stars on a review unless its a page turner, or touches my heart in a special way.

Shadows of the Past (Logan Point Book #1)

    Patricia Bradley

Book Summary: Psychology professor and criminal profiler Taylor Martin prides herself on being able to solve any crime, except the one she wants most desperately to solve--the disappearance of her father twenty years ago. When she finally has a lead on his whereabouts, Taylor returns home to Logan Point, Mississippi, to investigate. But as she is stalking the truth about the past, someone is stalking her. Nick Sinclair pens mystery novels for a living, but the biggest mystery to him is how he can ever get over the death of his wife--a tragedy he believes he could have prevented. With his estranged brother the only family he has left, Nick sets out to find him. But when he crosses paths with Taylor, all he seems to find is trouble. Join the chase as this determined duo search the murky shadows of the past for the keys to unlocking the present and moving into a future filled with new hope and love. Readers will be swept into the sultry South in this debut novel from a promising and already award-winning writer.

Review: While Taylor took a little time for me to warm up to I really did come to understand her character and root for her. She grew as a character throughout the story by admitting her weaknesses and wrongs. Her coming back in to the faith was welcomed. Livy and Nick were great additions to the story of the stalking & missing father story. It was well blended and easy to follow. I read it quickly from page 15 onward. I am looking forward to the next books in the series and would like to see one about Taylors brother and his missing wife along with Livy. I loved Taylors mom and their home which seemed so breezy and comfortable even if Mississippi/Tennessee is hot and humid in the summer. Liked how well things were woven together throughout the story that the ending was believable. I found Scotts character to be believable and amazingly resilient throughout all his problems. Worth the read and am looking forward to the next in the series.

This is the first of Patricia Bradley's books that I've read and I can't wait to read another! The characters of this book - all of them, not just the main ones - are well developed. I feel like I know them. I thought I had the "who done it" all figured out by page 116, but boy was I wrong! There were constantly things that made me rethink who I thought it was, but I stuck to my guns, and I got it wrong! This is well written and suspenseful. I'm starting the next book in the Logan Point series today, and I look forward to seeing what she has in store!

Shadows of the Past is kind of a Christian version of Castle, with the handsome and successful writer and the beautiful crime fighter. However, it's set in rural Mississippi rather than New York, Taylor Martin is a college professor, not a cop, and Nick Sinclair isn't her muse–he's the older brother of the guy Taylor suspects is stalking her.

Dr Taylor Martin is a psychology professor and criminal profiler, a job that means she sometimes attracts the wrong kind of attention. She journeys home to Logan Point in the hope she will escape her stalker and finds herself drawn into a family argument dating back from when her father disappeared. Nick is also in Mississippi, trying to locate his brother and restore their relationship–and show that Nick hasn't got anything to do with Taylor's stalker.

This was a mystery within a thriller, which added layers of suspense to the plot, and had me wondering all the way through what was what. It was obvious that several characters were hiding secrets, including Taylor, but it wasn't until the final pages that all the ends were tied up (in a most satisfactory manner, I might add). It's a combination of strong characters, exciting plot, and a budding romance–if only Nick can get over his past, and Taylor can rediscover hers.

It's no secret that romantic suspense is my favourite genre. Shadows of the Past is an excellent romantic suspense debut, and I'll certainly be looking forward to reading more from Patricia Bradley.
