Tell us a little about yourself. I am an English Professor at Asbury College. I
live with my wife Sharon (also a college
professor) in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky. We
both grew up in Chicago and did our PhD's at the
University of South Carolina. I enjoy playing
the guitar, biking, and of course, writing.
What was your motivation behind this project? While The Chronicles of Narnia can be read and
enjoyed with the simplicity of a child, they
also merit serious study. I teach a class on
Lewis and much of the book comes from
discussions that happened during class.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? First, of course, I hope readers will gain a
greater appreciation for the work of C. S.
Lewis. I hope my book adds to their enjoyment
of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Secondly, I hope to encourage readers to begin
thinking about literature in a serious way, to
beging asking questions themselves and coming up
with their own answers to the issues raised by
the text.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Obviously, C. S. Lewis has been my geatest
source of inspiration and encouragement. I also
love Tolkien and have written a number of
articles about The Lord of the Rings. These two
authors were my biggest "teachers" when I was a
young person.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: There are lots and lots of Lewis fans out there,
but up until now, they may have felt somewhat
isolated. With the film version of The Lion,
the Witch and the Wardrobe coming out, Lewis
enthusiasts are going to find out they are not
alone!
