WORTHY OF A STANDING OVATION

Hailing from Niagara Falls, Newworldson bring a fresh taste of New Orleans gospel/funk/blues to your speakers. Put on your dancin’ shoes and shake a leg while these Canadians bebop and scat your socks off. The album pairs catchy melodies with a potent combination of straightforward rhythmic changes and fun but relevant lyrics. Unlike many albums, Salvation Station seeps talent from all angles creating a truly unique and honest work. Currently on tour with the newsboys, NWS is honing its live performance which the band is already known for. (Word has it that they received a standing ovation during the GMA Week showcases last April, thoroughly impressing the hardest to impress.)

It truly is difficult to pick one single standout track, or even two for that matter. Five cuts in though, “Sweet Holy Spirit” sings “If Pride is My Prison/Then Grace be my King/Sweet Holy Spirit, Come rescue me,” displaying the deep lyrical content NWS inhabits. Moreover, the use of an upright bass creates a colossal subtle difference that must simply be heard to know.

Salvation Station is indeed a must-have for 2008. You will find yourself hitting “repeat” again and again.

Best Christian group I've heard in years! Truly "Christian" music. Makes you want to jump up and dance and praise God! Definitely Spirit-filled.

No money wasted here. I reviewed one of their singles but decided to take the time to review the CD - it is absolutely the best mix of old time Southern Gospel/Jazz/Bluesie/Rock and Lord knows but it is good. Gets your toes tapping and your heart praising the Lord. Generally just makes you feel happy. Hope they come out with another CD soon. It's been too long!

Amazing CD! Very diverse and talented group of musicians. I gave it to my husband for Christmas - we have listened to it about 6 times - and it's only the 26th of December!

I have to tell you what a find this Cd is; I got it at a Christian bookstore on sale for under $10 and it's been played repeatedly by me and my wife (in fact, my wife has claimed it for herself and I'm having trouble getting it back). My 4 year old sings "Working Man" all the time. This is a fantastic CD that mixes blues/funk/rock/r and b in a blend that's perfect. They have a new sound in Christian music taken from the old school. Salvation Station starts out this CD with boogie woogie high energy and everything just gets better. Working Man has that 60's feel of that oldy Secret Agent Man (for those old enough to remember) while the funky Gimme reminds me of Junior Walker. Sweet Holy Spirit is a great bluesy ballad. You get the funk feel with Down from the Mountain and Borderline, a gospel groove from Waiting for the Rapture, and a little reggae on Pledge of Allegiace. (On a side note, this group proves its reggae chops on a song called Weary on a 2006 GospelReggae compilation called Boomshots. Check it out.) This is a great CD, highly recommended for someone who likes their Christian music fun, infectious, and memorable. Buy it as soon as possible.

I wanted NewWorldSon's cd as soon as I heard their song "Salvation Station" on the radio. When I got it, I was amazed and the cd is stil in my cd player to his day. Their music is very ecclectic. It's very different from the norm out there today. It's a combination of jazz, soul, blues, gospel, funk and even reggae. Joel Parisien, the lead singer, has some of the greatest vocals on this planet and mad skills on the keys. And the drummer, bass and guitar player are great as well. Buy the cd, support the guys, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. This group has true talent. God bless them and may they continue to make sweet soul music for Him!

I really like this band and the CD, definitely buy it here though. I heard them in concert with the Newsboys last night and bought the CD there. They were charging $20 at the concert booth for it.

"Foot stoppin', hand clappin', shout down" are just three words to describe this music, and the band! I love the use of lyrics, kazoo playing, beat box, and the way the group plays their instruments. If you have been waiting for "a new sound" in Christian music, and i mean, "new", DEFinitely buy this cd, because i am confident you will not be let down. And if you are, pass it on to someone else, and i'm sure you will brighten their day, and widen their music-listening ears. I cannot wait until the next cd!!
