Product Description

In this thought provoking book, Gordon Fee deals primarily with the presence of the Holy Spirit in the individual life of the believer and in the church. He has redefined the terms of the discussion of the Holy Spirit in a fresh and passionate way, and gives us invitation to read the words of Paul in the New Testament anew. He examines the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and shows how God dwelt amongst His people and how the presence departed and was renewed again, and shows us how to experience the presence of God in our lives.

It was a great read in seminary - most laypeople will struggle to get through it

Every Christian should read this book! My experience that very few believers really understand the person and work of the Spirit. Fee bypasses the denominational biases and directs his efforts toward what the Apostle Paul believed and taught regarding the Holy Spirit. Exceptional!

Fee's emphasis on the allowing God to be God through the Person of the Holy Spirit is wonderfully done. I suggest this book to everyone, especially to those who think charasmatic is lifting your hands while you sing. A good theological approach as well as firm challenge to live in complete dependence on God.

This book is about all those passages in Paul's letters about the Holy Spirit that you never knew what to make of. Gordon Fee provides an enlightening, biblical apologetic for the experience of the Spirit in the life of the Church. He shows that for Paul, the Holy Spirit is the key to the whole Christian life. This Third Person of the Trinity is not to be marginalized by giving Him lip service in our creeds and then trying to live our lives in the flesh. Instead, the Spirit is the sovereign Lord of the Christian's "Spiritual life." This is a given for Paul, a presupposition upon which the rest of his Gospel depends. Gordon Fee, like Paul, is thoroughly Christ-centered in his theology. He is merely attempting to honor the One who makes it possible for us to worship and glorify Christ.

I used to think that the words Charismatic and scholar would never be found in the same vocabulary! But here Gordon Fee does a fine job as a scholar and as a spirit filled author. Basically this book tries to understand Paul's experience of and reasons for which God has poured out His Spirit on us. This book will help a church that is Trinitarian in doctrine but Binitarian in experience to grow into Paul's experience of the Spirit. Insightful enough for pastors, but easy enough to read for lay scholars as well.
