Product Description

Most people want to grow a life that matters to God, to others and themselves. Uprooted explores the messy and miraculous way that growth happens in people's lives. Author Michelle Van Loon explores 10 of Jesus's parables using grocery store ingredients like mustard seeds, yeast, wine and figs in a variety of fresh ways: re-telling Jesus's story from an unexpected and biblically faithful perspective, sharing the story through a contemporary person's experience, and offering some thoughts and questions that will help you connect with God and spark dialogue with others. Uprooted offers a creative, authentic and powerful look at the process of spiritual growth, not as a "how to", but as a "why to."

Author/Artist Review

Author: Michelle Van Loon

Tell us a little about yourself.  I have a Jewish heritage, and came to faith in Christ through the patient, unconventional witness of a friend in high school. I've spent my adulthood in the sometimes dysfunctional, sometimes beautiful world of the church. I'm a wife, mom, (really immature) grandmother and the author of a wide variety of published work. Uprooted is my second book.

What was your motivation behind this project?  The parables are often relegated to bulletin board material. For those of us who have been Christ-followers for a long time, we tend to take these stories for granted. These stories have an urgency and a heaven-invading earth reality that has captured me. I wanted to share that with my readers.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  "Seeing ears and hearing eyes" - a fresh perspective on the ways that God is at work in their lives. We often attempt to grow our spiritual lives from the outside in. Jesus' parables describe a very different kind of growth process. Uprooted isn't a "how to" book - but a "why to" creative journey through 10 of Jesus' stories starring growing things like mustard seeds and fig trees.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Favorite authors include Phil Yancey, Lauren Winner, Donald Miller, Larry Crabb, Jan Johnson and Patricia Raybon. Sources of inspiration are found EVERYWHERE.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I'd love to hear YOUR stories - please stop by my website (www.theparablelife.com) and say hello.
