During her lifelong service to the poorest of the poor, Mother Teresa became an icon of compassion to people of all religions; her extraordinary contributions to the care of the sick, the dying, and thousands of others nobody else was prepared to look after have been recognized and acclaimed throughout the world. Little is known, however, about her own spiritual heights or her struggles. This collection of her writings and reflections, almost all of which have never been made public before, sheds light on Mother Teresa's interior life in a way that reveals the depth and intensity of her holiness for the first time.

Popular culture has grabbed hold of this mystic with such a vengeance that millions see Mother Teresa as a saint -- but many critics bristle at the public adulation and question some of the choices she made in serving the poor and spending her order's money.
I won't comment on those issues. However, what is clear in this new collection of her previously private writings is that she was a mystic in a centuries-long tradition of men and women with spiritual motivations made of tempered steel. In some ways, she reminds us of Dorothy Day, whose diaries also reveal dark nights of the soul -- and a restless hunger in her search for God's presence.
This book was released by people working toward her canonization as a saint in the Catholic church, so they understand that it is important to let us glimpse Teresa's interior struggles.
If you're intrigued by this woman, you need to read this book to understand more about the fullness of her faith.

Reviewed by Jim Langley (Farmington, ME), March 11, 2008 A wonderful book! What an insight into her spiritual walk: darkness, Light, patience, endurance, doubt, faith, love, unceasing prayer, thirst, mountaintops, valleys, terrible but necessary inner struggles in the Refiner's fire. It's all there.
The love of Jesus radiated from her bringing tears of immense joy to those around her who walked in God's grace, full of the Spirit. As I wept those tears of joy, there were other's who were unaffected. It reminded me of Jesus preaching to the people-even in His presence, some got it and some didn't. Reading this book helped my understanding of what it takes to get There. Write a review of Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light
