This book is among the best-known works of Jonathan Edwards. Edwards seeks to distinguish between true and false religion by showing the marks of a saving work of the Holy Spirit in men. In his Preface, Edwards stresses the importance of using "our utmost endeavors clearly to discern ...wherein true religion does consist". For "till this be done, it may be expected that great revivings of religion will be but of short continuance". Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) was one of the few truly great theologians of the English-speaking world, who began his ministry at Northampton, Massachusetts, when New England had drifted from the Puritanism of its founders.

Very humbling and wonderful to read. It is a read that will take you time and in order to get the most from it you must chew it up and meditate on it! Were it that all of us were as intune with the Lord as Edwards was!

Highly recommended. If I had the resources, I would first buy a copy to give to every Christian minister. It would, if blessed by the Spirit of God, profoundly impact the Church for good and the glory of God. If men of God would preach and teach true conversion from this biblical perspective, perhaps the churches would be both emptied (of false Christians) and filled (with true Christians who live passionately for God's glory). In my estimation, this is of inestimable value and should be read by every professing believer.
