Professor Michael Jernigan, a Christian, is teaching a religions course at community college. A local, barely halted act of religious terrorism throws a teeth–on–edge relevancy into the class discussions.
Jernigan teaches from a rare text he obtained while in Cambodia—the Five Crossings. Each “Crossing” unveils a universal spiritual question, which only Christianity can satisfactorily address because it...
- is testable
- presents salvation as a free gift
- paints a picture of the world that matches reality
- makes a non–compartmentalized life possible
- has Jesus at the center
Non–Christians will relate to the storytelling context and will see the overarching truth about the God who transcends time and culture. A real page turner, could not put the book down and was left in tears. This does present a solid case for the Christian faith, showing that it's testable, the only faith that offers salvation by grace alone, has a World View Fit, let's us live non-compartmental lives, and shows that Jesus is the one common figure in all religions.

Wow! I wasn't expecting this. A friend got it from the author and passed it on to me. I hadn't heard a thing about it and was blown away. Craig Hazen's first foray into fiction is a huge winner. Forget the Da Vinci Code with its "make it up as you go" approach to religion. Hazen weaves some of the most insightful ideas in religion and philosophy right into a sizzling page turning story. Whether you are a Christian believer or not, you will be captured by the grace, kindness, and brilliance of the main character, Prof. Michael Jernigan. The characters come alive. I could swear I've met all these people. The only question I had when I finished (in tears I might add) was "when is Hazen's next book coming out?" Quick, somebody tell Oprah!
