Blessings come in various forms from a prayer answered to a subtle awareness. The book Reflections of God’s Holy Land would be in the latter category. A glossy, pictorial essay suitable to display on the finest coffee table, I thought I would read it in a couple weeks, review it, and donate it to my church. Yet 5 months later, I still hold it in my hands, unwilling to pass it on. You see, I didn’t take the subtitle, A Personal Journey Through Israel, seriously. I assumed it was just another pretty travel book with lots of beautiful photos of Israel and directions how to get there. Was I wrong. I started reading Reflections the same way I read any other book; a couple hrs set aside to entertain myself as a reward for other tasks accomplished. Yet after the first dozen pages, I realized this is not a book to be rushed in one sitting if you want to travel the journey with the authors. The concept is simple. Quote a biblical reference. Match it with a photo. Show a two-page spread of historical and architectural details including what it looks like today. And finally, read the Eva’s thoughts as she walks the path, touches the stones, and feels the same sun at the same place where it touched Jesus 2,000 years before. Her journey is spiritual. Her words are thought-provoking. I realized then, the best way to view this book is to take each small journey and then rest and reflect. Jesus actually walked this earth, over there, in the Holy Land. And the Bible tells us what and where things happened. But to actually see these places, many of them unchanged over time, is to look at the Bible with ‘new eyes’. To experience a spiritual awakening to the truths and hardships of this holiest of lands. This is the blessing I received for this book. My Rating: Excellent Value for the money: Excellent

I have always wanted to visit Israel. This book made my desire stronger; in the meantime, it has satisfied my curiosity while I am not able to go. I enjoy photography; therefore, all the beautiful photographs in this book really appealed to me. In addition, I gained some historical and archaeological knowledge about the different sites that were mentioned in the Bible and appreciated the authors' insight (even though I may not agree with everything). I was especially pleased to see that every chapter began with related Scripture verses. This book helped me connect the dots from what I read in the Bible to their geographical locations. It was also interesting to get perspectives from one author who is a Christian (Eva Marie Everson) and another who is a Jew (Miriam Feinberg Vamosh). If you have visited Israel, this book would help you reminisce. In my opinion, any book that draws you to read and study God's Word is worth reading! I know I will open this book again and again whenever I get to different spots in my Bible study. Traveling through its pages is like taking a tour of the Holy Land and you can do it as often as you desire.

Reflections of God’s Holy Land A Personal Journey Through Israel By Eva Marie Everson & Miriam Feinberg Vamosh This is a beautifully done book. I enjoyed the vivid photographs from spots I someday hope to visit in person. Some of the places were familiar to me, some not so familiar; which I also appreciated. I gained a whole new perspective on some of the biblical accounts after seeing an actual photo of the place in the Holy Land. The photography is gorgeous, and adds so much to the book’s narrative. I particularly enjoyed reading the historical information and detail in the Did You Know sections by Miriam Feinberg Vamosh. It brought many things to life for me, and I learned a great deal. It was touching to read the heartfelt responses to different happenings along the way in the Reflections by Eva Marie Everson. I enjoyed reading about the Holy Land from the perspective of one who is Jewish and one a Christian. It is a blessing that the Lord has brought these two ladies together to share their love of the Holy Land in one book. Whether you’ve visited the Holy Land before, or like me, hope to realize that dream someday, this book is a wonderful addition to any library. Catherine Love

I enjoyed the book, however, I felt a few of the photos to be distracting from the subject matter due to the artistic framing and fade-out edges. Some subject matter was not verifiable and was only included as legend or hearsay. However, it is a beautiful book and I did learn some things I had never even considered before. It was a worthwhile purchase.

Experience the Wilderness of Zin where Moses led the Israelites and see the craggy desert mountains, suggestive of Utah. Or see the Judean Wilderness where John the Baptist wandered and Jesus fasted for 40 days. Emerson describes the “endless immense waves of sand-colored mountains,” instantly bringing to mind the Peruvian desert south of Lima. Visit Ein Gedi which Samuel called “The Rocks of the Wild Goats” and were David hid in fear and wrote several Psalms and where King Herod later cultivated Balsam. How exciting to see the recent photos of these Biblical lands, to read Vamosh’s historical and archaeological accounts and to experience Emerson’s soul-baring reflections as she encounters these places for the first time. Her self-examinations will challenge you to deepen your faith. Her vivid and emotionally evocative descriptions give you a real feel for the Holy Land. Reflections explores 38 Biblical sites. Each site has recent photos, various passages of scripture recording things from both Old and New Testament that happened at the site, Vamosh’s “Did You Know” section about the history and archeology and Emerson’s “Reflections” section, bringing the sites to life and bringing you into the emotional and spiritual aspects of being there. The material inside the book is amazing and what drew me in, but the exterior of the book and the structure of the reading is fantastic, too. This book is an excellent coffee table book. Within the first fifty pages, I thought of a friend to whom I must give this book. It’s Biblically educational, it’s spiritually motivational and it’s passionate. I love my copy and will read it often.

Reflections of God’s Holy Land provides a full-color armchair tour of the Holy Land. This highest-quality book brings the Scriptures and the Land to life. Breathtaking professional photos by Everson, Vamosh and Doron Nissim depict the Judean Desert, Rachel’s and David’s tombs, Shepherd’s Field, the Nativity Church, native flowers, waterfalls, a map, and much more. Scriptures lavishly and tastefully enhance each section. Best-selling author Everson's "Did You Know?" pages include her inspirational insights about standing on holy ground. Vamosh’s “Reflections” provide in-depth knowledge of and love for Israel’s history and archeology, drawn from her years of experience as an Israeli tour educator. The Lord made a team of these gifted women. Both love Israel. Everson is Christian, Vamosh is Jewish. Both are professional photographers, professional writers and teachers. I cried over some of the pages, and laughed out loud as I read what actually happened when Rebekah met Isaac for the first time. Don't look at it alone--sit down together with a child or another adult over the holidays. Every family, grandparent and church/public library needs one of these treasures.
