Product Description

A Different Jesus? is every apologist's dream book - a book written by a Mormon who wants to give the straight facts about Mormonism. Unearthing details that are sometimes missed or glossed over by cult watchdogs, Millet builds the "house" of Mormonism before our eyes. He does not shy away from the hard beliefs of Mormons, and he does not try to simplify the matter by simply equating traditional Christianity and Mormonism; rather he finds both common ground and sharp contrast between the two belief systems. A glossary is provided so the reader will have instant access to what Millet means when using common words, names or phrases that might otherwise be confused.

Richard Mouw, a Christian who has done perhaps the most to reach out to the Mormon community in recent years, provides the Foreword and Afterword and was instrumental in crafting the issues and questions addressed in the book. His heart for the lost is evident in his writing, and his wish to bridge the gap in communication between "us" and "them" is expressed in a most Christian way.

"Through this book Bob Millet has given the Christian world a gift of clarity. He lays out a thoroughly Mormon understanding of Jesus-centered salvation and draws the points of connection to classical Christian teaching. Yet he does not at all hide or diminish the fundamental differences in our understandings." - David Neff, editor of Christianity Today

I am a former "temple Mormon" I was one for over forty years, before I left it's false teachings and found Jesus Christ. I actually bought this book from CBD, and after receiving it was appalled at how pro-Mormon the book is. There were no straight facts about Mormonism in that book, just the gloss they expect all Christians to accept about them. It was one lie after another. Just for the record, I returned the book to CBD and requested a refund. oh, FYI..if you want to know the truth without the gloss and lies Mormons make about Mormonism, read Ed Decker's The GodMakers". That's truth about how dark and evil the Mormon cult really is.

An excellent book by someone who seems to know his subject extremely well. This will allow Non-LDS Christians to see Mormonism in the light of day, and not through the distorting dark lens of BGod bless you to continue to feed our minds and spirits by serving the Master of Truth.

Thank you, Christian Book, for offering a resource for those of us who want to learn for ourselves what the Mormons believe. If I want to know what a Baptist believes, would I get better information from a Buddhist or a Baptist? "Do unto others as you would have others do to you" (Treat others the way you would like to be treated). Here is a Mormon explaining what they believe. It is interesting that most of the negative reviews are nothing more than attacking the Mormons. Not a good example of being a Christian. BUY the book and READ the book and LEARN FOR YOURSELF what the Mormons believe. Consider your source. Would you want someone who has LEFT your congregation representing your beliefs? I don't think they could do a fair job. Thank you for offering this book. I enjoyed this well written book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and not just regurgitate what they have heard. Try learning for yourself.

If you wanted to know what the Saints believed in the First Century, would you have read the texts of Roman pagans who called them atheists? If you want to know what the Latter-day Saints believe, you should read what they say about themselves. Millet's book is a great contribution to literature about 13 million believers in Christ. It should be read by anyone who wants to know what Mormons really believe.

It is sad to see the arrogance and condescension of so many people, who call themselves "Christian". Robert Millet is the author or co-author of 27 scholarly works on various religious topics in the field of Mormon theology. His books have universally been well reviewed in all scholarly fields. He holds a Masters in Psychology, a PhD in Religious Studies from Florida State, and was Chair head of Ancient Scriptures and Dean of Religious Studies at BYU. I think he's qualified to discuss what Mormons believe. But it appears here, if he doesn't damn the Mormons, but rather explains clearly and succinctly what THEY believe, he is given NO credit by most of those who contributed their 0-star reviews here. People--you don't have to agree with someone to acknowledge their talent and skill. Millet's book is clear, concise, intelligently cohesive, with logical and balanced scholarly explanations. He is not proselyting, or condemning, but rather explaining the theological foundation of the Mormons, the 4th largest denomination in America. Shouldn't "Christians" be at least open-minded enough to understand how the Mormons have come to build and defend their own theology? To not acknowledge that Millet does that with skill in this book, and only focus on how sorry you are to see anything that isn't hatefilled or damning of the Mormons, suggests many prefer to swim in only shallow waters. But, it appears, "Christians" at this web site would shoot the messenger because they don't like the message. Or, they feel threatened that a logical case has been so well made by a Mormon. Get over your judgmental, hypocritical selves, and at least give credit to an excellent book, when credit is due. To focus on why you don't want to accept Mormon theology, instead of how well it is here presented, is petty, small minded, and insipid. Grow up. Take a pill, and be grateful your minds are so closed that nothing can provoke you to think beyond your comfort zone.

From its beginning, Mormonism and its "Jesus" are a lie. Any book promoting this lie has no place whatsoever in any ACTUAL Christian media. Promotion of this book on this site is offensive.

This IS a revolutionary book in that it attempts to be even-handed to the point of conciliation with Mormon beliefs. But is also severely wrongheaded. A BYU theology prof no more represents standard Mormon belief then does a typical Evangelical college professor. Both will be liberal and stretch the truth. Mormons MAY be Christians in indiviudal cases, and you CAN work grace into their theology, but the typical Mormon, and the Church's printed teachings and Temple rituals? Puh-lease. It is not just the former Walter Martin who calls Mormonism a cult, but alot of very respected Evangelical leaders and a host of former Mormons. A naive book, to say the least. Sad to watch Evangelicalism become more and more diminished.

Like many reviewers before me, I too am deeply saddened and disappointed that Christianbook would carry this book. I am a former Mormon and can tell you from personal knowledge it is nothing but propaganda. What many Christians do not understand is that they cannot just go by the "current teachings" of the Mormon Church. The Journal of Discourses, as one reviewer failed to mention, is a compilation of doctrines and teachings put forth as "God's word" by LDS prophets. Even the foreword to these 26 volumes says that they are to be considered scripture. The LDS Church claims it is led by prophets who speak for God. If a former Mormon prophet taught that "Heavenly Father" had sexual relations with Mary to conceive Jesus, and a current LDS prophet says he did not, then which one of them was wrong? Or did "God" actually change history or lie? Mormon teachings do not allow for their former prophets to be wrong because their whole gospel is based on the authority of their prophets and apostles. Robert Millet is not an official "prophet or apostle" of the LDS Church and his views do not constitute official church doctrines. He is a paid defender of the LDS Church and writes whatever it takes to make Mormonism appear as a legitimate Christian denomination. Christians need to wake up and listen to those of us who have experienced the deception first hand. Unless you have been in a cult, you can't even begin to understand their tactics, lies, and propaganda to get converts; nor can you understand the psychological, emotional, and spiritual hold it has on its members. Why play "pat-a-cake" with something that leads to spiritual death?
