There is a difference between being a 'male' and being a 'man'. Ed Cole knew this so well he wrote a book about it, and after 30 years and over a million copies sold it still holds water. Many men have found truth in these pages (women, too, can gain much from the book) and it has been the backbone of Cole's ministry, The Christian Men's Network, and positioned him as the father of the Christian men's movement.
Men are multi-faceted, and all parts can come under attack from the enemy. Men can fail in many areas of their life, but as Cole focuses on the five most familiar reasons - lust, idolatry, fornication, tempting Christ (demanding God to do what is contrary to Him), and murmuring (complaining, criticizing, faultfinding, etc.) - he finds almost every man at some level. Refocusing a man's priorities on Christ by clearly delineating what these sins are and what they can do to a man starts the process of maximizing a man's potential and bringing him to full spiritual maturity.

Never have I read a more succinct, helpful volume for men. Dr. Cole shoots straight in relating that true manhood is Christlikeness. Having read men's books that were written later, I can see where some of Dr. Cole's insights perhaps have been used. I highly recommend it to men today.

Dr. Cole went home to be with the Lord a few years ago and his influence on Men's spiritual growth cannot be measured. I first read this book in the 80's when I was in my 20's. It had a tremendous impact on me and gave me guidance into manhood that I never received at home. Now, in my 40's I'm looking to use this as a study guide for a men's group at our church.
