Through comprehensive lexical, historical, and grammatical study, Fee provides an exegesis of every Spirit text in Paul's writings. Part I, the exegetical section, is particularly helpful for lesson preparation. Fee thoroughly discusses virtually every passage relating to his subject matter – “The Holy Spirit in the Letters of Paul.” He also interacts with other scholars (mostly in footnotes). It is especially refreshing to see the Pastoral Epistles treated as “letters of Paul” in this volume (though not all readers will agree with this conclusion). The second section is primarily a “synthesis” of the material from part I. Anyone who appreciates taking the time to do exegesis prior to reaching conclusions will appreciate this work. I highly recommend it.
