A fresh and original analysis of all the passages in the Pauline corpus (including Ephesians, Colossians, and the Pastoral Epistles) that concern the Holy Spirit. Through comprehensive lexical, historical, and grammatical study, Fee provides an exegesis of every Spirit text in Paul's writings. He then investigates the Holy Spirit's crucial roles in Pauline theology including eschatological fulfillment, divine Person of the Trinity, and evidence for and guarantee of salvation. 960 pages, hardcover from Hendrickson.

Reviewed by RICHARD HOLT (Clovis, NM), September 30, 2009 Part I, the exegetical section, is particularly helpful for lesson preparation. Fee thoroughly discusses virtually every passage relating to his subject matter – “The Holy Spirit in the Letters of Paul.” He also interacts with other scholars (mostly in footnotes). It is especially refreshing to see the Pastoral Epistles treated as “letters of Paul” in this volume (though not all readers will agree with this conclusion). The second section is primarily a “synthesis” of the material from part I. Anyone who appreciates taking the time to do exegesis prior to reaching conclusions will appreciate this work. I highly recommend it. Write a review of God's Empowering Presence: The Holy Spirit in the Letters of Paul
