This book was good. It was pretty deep. Being non-fiction, it took me much longer to read that most books. However, it had some beautiful stories in it that illustrated the points that were being made. That was my favorite part of this book. This would be a great tool to facilitate discussion at a home Bible study or in a women's group.

Kathi Macias slices right through the "Me-First" sickness engulfing our culture. The tip of that knife exposed my own tendency to lethargy and the sidetrack of "good things". What does God have in mind for me? Can I find the New Testament Jesus in today's trappings?
Macias beckons from personal examples and meaty scripture," Search!" Dig hard for a relationship with God that is more than just a glance through a dusty rearview mirror. Let the principles of "Beyond Me" kindle the places in your soul that cry for fire.
Two hundred pluls pages, places to jot ideas, and sidebars that hook you. I'll be hanging on to this book for a long time. But I'll share.

The day I became a Christian, I became thirsty for my Bible. I knew that was the growing place for my new faith.
It did become the foundation for growth and through the years other books have shown brilliant light upon it's words and precepts.
In a gentle but powerful way, a very special book, BEYOND ME by Kathi Macias provides deeper insights into familiar passages. It is gentle because Kathi stands beside the reader as one who also wants to live God's way. She becomes a fellow struggler as we desire to live a You -first life in a me-first world!
Her writing also brings new insights to very familiar passages in the Bible. Heartfelt illustrations of family and friends are sprinkled throughout the pages so that I identify with the feelings of the author.
Do not let another day go by before you purchase BEYOND ME and get excited about its' message.

Great love can startle, shake, and even scare us. But for those who will follow its path, the rewards are exceeding and eternal. This is the kind of love that Kathi Macias encourages us to embrace in Beyond Me. With honesty and insight, Kathi brings out both old and new treasures as she teaches God’s foundational message: Choose love; choose life.

I admit that after scanning the table of contents when I picked up my friend Kathi Macias' book, "Beyond Me. Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World," I went directly to the appendix! I adored my father and no way could I wait until after I'd read the entire book to see what Kathi had written about her dad. Unusual as it might be, the appendix, with Kathi's story of her dad, became my launch pad into the balance of her wonderfully created guide to living life more fully. In each chapter, she gently lifted me, shaking the pretense out of me, skillfully opening Scripture time and time again with examples of how to live for others within a world that so much of the time is utterly "me first." As I read Kathi's words, she walked me through those familiar scriptures with new eyes. I filled in blanks with my personal experiences and was uplifted in the promise that with Jesus, I really can live more fully beyond myself. If you, like me, tend to skim quickly across the surface of busy days, you will be taught and mentored well in using Beyond Me in your daily meditation and worship. Keep it close, drink it in, and allow it to help stretch and strengthen your spiritual walk with the Lord.

I had the great privilege and honor of reading Kathi's book, BEYOND ME: LIVING A YOU-FIRST LIFE IN A ME-FIRST WORLD, when it was still in the manuscript stages. To say I was deeply moved is an understatement.
Kathi writes with the unique combination of a writer's heart of truth and a pastor's heart of love. Her book, written, in my opinion, "for such a time as this", addresses the spirit of compromise that has infiltrated the Body of Christ and provides solutions to overcoming that spirit.
If you are hungry to move to a deeper level in Christ, and if you are ready to shed your Christian complacency, read BEYOND ME. But don't just read it; apply it in your life. Its message will take you to a new dimension of relationship both with God and with your fellow man. If you're serious about following Jesus Christ, this book is a must-read.

Tell us a little about yourself. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a young child. I published my first book twenty years ago, and feel so blessed that God has granted me the desire of my heart.
What was your motivation behind this project? This is the "book of my heart." Unlike my other books, I worked on this one for many years. It contains much of the story of what God has done in my life since He first "ambushed" me in 1974, and I am so grateful to finally see it in print.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope readers will fall more deeply in love with the Father, who loves us scandalously and unreservedly--and calls us to do the same for others.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Throughout the book I was confronted with the dark places in my heart and life that I thought were gone--but weren't. The final chapter tells of the life-and-death trauma that brought it all into focus.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have many, but I would have to say Brennan Manning and Henri Nouwan had the greatest impact on me throughout the writing of this book.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I want them to know that God has called us to the impossible--and has promised to enable us to fulfill that calling.
