"Hey Mom, you got any wisdom for me?" When my children have asked me that, I have often sent them to favorite Bible verses. But now since reading this awesome book by Kathi Macias I am familiar with full stories of real mothers in the Bible, not just short verses, in those stories. I see the depth of Eve, and the quiet wisdom of Lois and Eunice. The torn heart of Rachel with two angry sons and the glory of Mary the mother of Jesus have become vivid and exciting. I give five stars to this book because it leaves me with a heart of thanksgiving. I treasure the new insights, and knowledge of Scripture that I have too often taken for granted. All fifteen mothers speak today and give wisdom to my motherhood. A huge thank you to Kathi Macias for giving us MOTHERS OF THE BIBLE SPEAK TO MOTHERS OF TODAY!

Kathi has made each mother of the Bible come alive to the reader. As one reads about each mother, it is like reading with a new pair of eyes and with new insight. She has written a book that not only mothers can relate to, but also any Godly Woman that is striving for spiritual maturity. Having read her interpretation of the Proverbs 31 Woman: A Woman for all seasons, I now understand that I have a common bond with her,and that she is a valid role model for me today. Questions to journal on, prayers, and quotes at the end of each chapter is an added treat for the reader.

As much as I've read the Bible, I've never thought to delve into the hearts and minds of the characters within. Ms. Macias has done a beautiful job in this interesting and thought provoking book. Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today is a lovely example of the wisdom and direction that can be only gleaned from the Source of all life. “Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today” is a beautiful book by Kathi Macias. Fifteen chapters about fifteen different Biblical moms teach today’s mothers the principles of prayer, influence, sacrifice, joy, mentoring and fulfillment that transcend time and space to indicate just how alike we are. There are questions at the end of each chapter that can be used for thoughtful reflection or discussion. This lovely book is also peppered with quotes from mothers on motherhood. It’s been said that babies should come with instructions – that there is no book that tells you how to be a parent – the Bible is our instruction manual. Kathi Macias beautifully points us back to that. This is a wonderful read and would be a great Mother’s Day gift.

Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today by Kathi Macias is a terrific read for mothers new and experienced. Macias takes readers through the Bible from Eve to Mary, mother of Jesus, each earning her own chapter. She summarizes each mom's story in the Bible, emphasizing and elaborating on Scripture to make her point about what makes her special. From Jochabed's sacrificing her son for his best interest to Rizpah mourning the death of her sons, there is a lesson for today's mothers. The chapters are written in a friendly, conversational tone and have great questions at the end for discussion or personal reflection. Macias encourages moms to become the mom God wants us to be.

I enjoyed a relaxing Mother's Day capped off by some great reading. One of the books was Kathi Macias' Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today. I admit I was skeptical because it seems like there are a few books out there about women of the Bible and how we can relate to them. This was different in a very pleasant way. Besides the known women like Eve and Sarah, Kathi Macias also featured Salome, Lois, Eunice, and others. Each chapter ends with a practical application and prayer. It's relevant, easy reading, and I learned a lot.

In this uplifting study of some of the most well-known and some not-as-well-known mothers of the Bible, Kathi Macias provides an in-depth look into what we can learn from Eve, Sarah, Hannah, The Proverbs 31 Woman, Jesus's mother, Mary and others. In my own reading of the Bible and as a Sunday school teacher I have had the chance to study some of these Biblical mothers, but Macias's books always manage to teach me something or provide me a perspective that I had never thought of before. From the author's chapter on how Eve was a mother without a role model to how Eunice and Lois--like all mothers and grandmothers--train up a child in the way he should go and then make the hard decision to pass the torch onto the next generation, Macias discusses the traits these women of the Bible exhibited and how they worked into God's plan. One of the chapters is dedicated to the virtuous woman from Proverbs 31. Macias wrote an entire book on her journey to become like the virtuous woman and what she learned along the way. Some of that is featured in Chapter 14 of Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today. It is wise that she includes the virtuous woman in this book as well because as Macias says on Page 231, "Understanding that this 'perfect woman' is more of a composite of many women, rather than a portrait of one, makes looking in the mirror and searching for her reflection a lot less discouraging...Even the most devoted wife, woman, mother, and/or businesswoman can't do it all--and certainly not all at once!" Each chapter is preceded by a quotation from a variety of people, and each chapter ends with more quotations that fit the chapter's theme, questions to "think about and enter in your journal" and "A Mother's Prayer". "Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today" by Kathi Macias will inspire you, lift you up, and encourage you along your journey as a Christian mother. A perfect gift, no mother will be left untouched by this book!

After all the years I've been reading and studying the Bible, I didn't think there was much more I could learn about the mothers of the Bible--until I read this book. Fascinating! And so practical. I just wish I'd had this book when I was raising my own children.
