Publisher's Description

There are two amazing forces that exist in the world: Compassion for those in need and Art that helps us see beyond ourselves. THE ART OF COMPASSION brilliantly brings the two together by gathering the top songwriters in Christian music to help raise money for relief and suffering around the planet.

Legendary Christian worship songwriters Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Israel Houghton, Andy Park, Tim Hughes, and many others have each contributed a chapter reflecting on the poverty people suffer around the world, the art of compassion, and how we can make a difference. Darlene Zschech, best known for her song "Shout to the Lord" which is sung by 25 to 30 million churchgoers each week, gives an apologetic on her personal role and the greater church's role of social justice in her story, "Rise Up, Church!" In "A Visible Gospel" five-time Grammy Award-winning Steven Curtis Chapman humbly shares his family's call to adopt three children and their ongoing ministry to help fund other families' adoptions.

"There are two amazing forces that exist in the world: Compassion for those in need and Art that helps us see beyond ourselves." - Martin Smith

At first, I saw this book and thought that it would be a great read because I saw many of my favorite singers and songwriters listed on the cover. But really, what is The Art of Compassion? CompassionArt is a charitable project founded by musician Martin Smith of Delirious and his wife Anna. A few of the artists involved were Darlene Zschech, Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche and Michael W. Smith.

The Art of Compassion is more than a book written about twelve famous Christian songwriters and their wonderful holiday in Scotland. Through the eyes of each of these artists, they share a glimpse from their hearts, of how it all came about, the joys and pains were real but with the help of the Holy Spirit, they were victorious.

My Thoughts: I must confess that I get very emotional when I read or hear the testimonies of others. I hope that you will be just as inspired, as you read each chapter of this wonderful book. Join numerous Christian artists on their journey through self-discovery and compassion, as they unite to develop an amazing album to help fund a charitable cause for the prevention of global poverty.

I found this book very inspiring. It brought me to tears, but also showed me hope if each of us get involved. It goes great with the CD. Don't forget---worship is life not just singing. Check out some of the charities they support. Also don't forget to check out onemillioncan.com.

I have been a fan of Christian music for a long time. Quite a few of my favorites participated in this project, so I was really interested in reading it. The book is a collection of short stories written by each artist about poverty around the world and. Some describe what they saw in South Africa, while others write on poverty in general. Many of the authors really look at poverty and how the church today deals with it. It is a very inspirational book and gives us a glimpse of the heart of each of these artists. It's a great companion piece to the CD.If you're a fan of Christian music this will probably appeal to you.

Recorded here are the results of twelve Christian musicians who collaborated to make a difference in the world. First, they met at a retreat in Scotland where they were challenged to write a new set of worship songs that would eventually be recorded. The profits from these songs would go to fund charities around the world. The motive is to love the world enough to make a difference. They pledged to tackle a world filled with great need. This book grew from that song-writing retreat. Each story of compassion is told in its individual chapter, so that the book reads like a short story collection. These artists put worship into action. Their inspirational stories are diverse and interesting to read.
