When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her Mama a very important question--one that little "human cubs" often wonder about, too: "Where did I come from?" As Mama bear tucks her youngest cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: "We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because--"God gave us you."
Perfect for bedtime, naptime, storytime or anytime, God Gave Us You provides a valuable opportunity to build children's self-esteem every day and assure each one that he or she truly is a welcomed, precious, and treasured gift from the Lord. Recommended for ages 4 to 8.

LOVED IT! This is just an awesome book, I bought it when my oldest daughter was a toddler, and she feel in love with it, now my youngest adores it too. The only problem is I tear up everytime I read it, because it still amazes me I am so blessed to have these two beautiful little girls. Everyone should have a copy of this book!

This is a sweet endearing story and has a different meaning for each individual. I gave this to a friends daughter that had struggled with several miscarriages. I thought it was very appropriate and she treasures it. My youngest nephew's wife is pregnant with her first and to has suffered several miscarriages. I will be sending her one as well.

Lisa Tawn Bergen created a popular series of books featuring a family of polar bears. God Gave Us You is the first book in the series. The other titles are God Gave Us Two, God Gave Us Christmas, and God Gave Us Heaven.
In this book, Little Cub asks Mama that age-old question: Where did I come from? Instead of giving some silly answer like, “The stork brought you,” or “We found you in the pumpkin patch,” Mama answers, “From God.” She goes on to say, “Your papa and I were alone, and we wanted a baby.” “And you got me?” Little Cub asked. “Yes, my special child. God gave us you.”
Little Cub asks many more questions about the time before he was born. Mama answers each one patiently. At the end of the story, Little Cub asks: “Did you ever want a different baby?” “Never,” Mama said. “Never, ever, ever. Your papa and I wouldn’t trade you for the world.” “Why?” Little Cub asked. “Why? Because God gave us you.”
I like the way Mama Bear handles Little Cub’s questions. She doesn’t come across as preachy, but she certainly conveys the idea that Little Cub was a gift from God. That makes Little Cub feel very special.
I also like the illustrations. The charming, pastel pictures of chubby polar bears and other creatures, by illustrator Laura J. Bryant, have been duplicated throughout the series (even though Laura didn’t illustrate all of the books).

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a full-time mother, wife and writer. I am a
leader in my local MOPS group, lead the
occasional bible study and procrastinate for
weeks on my next writing projects by messing
around with my kids. Painting toenails, etc.
What was your motivation behind this project? Olivia and Emma are my daughters, 5 and 2 years
old. I wanted a way to show them not only how
much their parents wanted them and celebrated
their life from the start, but also how God did
too.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope it will be a good way to answer the
omnipresent "Where did I come from?" question
when your kids are too young to get into
specifics. And I hope it will remind the adults
how they are a treasured creation of God as much
as show the kids that they are treasured too.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? For this project, my kids! My daughters come up
with amazing theological insights and tough
questions that make me think all the time.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: People are buying this book for baby showers and
baby gifts all the time. It has gorgeous art--
check out my website: www.lisatawnbergren.com if
you want to see a couple of interior spreads!
Wonderful! And WaterBrook is publishing a follow-
up book next fall: GOD GAVE US TWO; the main
purpose for that book is to prepare a child for a
sibling. Same artist!
